Abstract

An Internet telephony system (ITS) comprising an enclosure, an interface to a packet switched computer network; a communications processor, configured to implement a voice over Internet Protocol communication, to execute at least a client portion of a telephony control application supporting at least a coordinated delivery of data presented to the user through a user interface and a conversation using the voice over Internet Protocol communication; and to execute a web browser; and at least one manual control input.

Claims

1. An Internet telephony system, comprising:

an enclosure;

an interface to a packet switched computer network;

a communications processor, configured to implement a voice over Internet Protocol communication, to execute at least a client portion of a telephony control application supporting at least a coordinated delivery of data presented to the user through a user interface and a conversation using the voice over Internet Protocol communication; and

to execute a web browser; and

at least one manual control input.

2. The Internet telephony system according to claim 1, wherein the client portion executes as a linked library under a computer operating system.

3. The Internet telephony system according to claim 1, wherein the client portion comprises at least one resident linked library, and is configured when executing on the communications processor to dynamically call at least one additional linked library.

4. The Internet telephony system according to claim 1, wherein the voice over Internet Protocol and web browser share a common Internet Protocol address of the packet switched computer network.

5. The Internet telephony system according to claim 1, wherein the voice over Internet Protocol and web browser have respectively different Internet Protocol addresses of the packet switched computer network.

6. The Internet telephony system according to claim 1, wherein the web browser is configured to store a persistent state identifier which defines at least one voice over Internet Protocol contact preference for a user, which are communicated remotely through the packet switched computer network.

7. The Internet telephony system according to claim 1, wherein the processor is configured to conduct a voice over Internet Protocol communication through a remote application service provider.

8. The Internet telephony system according to claim 1, wherein the processor is configured to receive an automatic number identification (ANI) of a telephone line of an inbound caller.

9. The Internet telephony system according to claim 1, wherein the processor is configured to initiate an outbound call with a single pointing device action.

10. The Internet telephone system according to claim 1, wherein the processor is configured to support scriptable logic to control at least the voice over Internet Protocol communication and a database access.

11. An Internet telephony method, comprising:

interfacing to a packet switched computer network;

implementing a voice over Internet Protocol communication, a client portion of a telephony control application supporting at least a coordinated delivery of data presented to the user through a user interface and a conversation using the voice over Internet Protocol communication, and a web browser with an automated processor within an enclosure; and

receiving at least one manual control input.

12. The Internet telephony method according to claim 11, wherein the client portion executes as a resident linked library under a computer operating system.

13. The Internet telephony method according to claim 11, wherein the client portion comprises at least one resident dynamic link library, and when executing, to dynamically call at least one additional linked library.

14. The Internet telephony method according to claim 11, wherein the voice over Internet Protocol and web browser share a common Internet Protocol address of the packet switched computer network.

15. The Internet telephony method according to claim 11, wherein the voice over Internet Protocol and web browser have respectively different Internet Protocol addresses of the packet switched computer network.

16. The Internet telephony method according to claim 11, wherein the web browser stores a persistent state identifier which defines at least one voice over Internet Protocol contact preference for a user, which are communicated remotely through the packet switched computer network.

17. The Internet telephony method according to claim 11, further comprising conducting a voice over Internet Protocol communication through a remote application service provider to communicate with a circuit switched telephone.

18. The Internet telephony method according to claim 11, further comprising initiating an outbound call with a single pointing device action.

19. An Internet telephone device, comprising:

an enclosure;

an interface to a packet switched computer network;

an automated processor configured to execute a client application supporting voice over Internet protocol communications with a telephone server and web communications with a web server over the packet switched computer network interface, wherein the web communications and voice over Internet protocol communications are automatically coordinated and controlled by a common applet; and

at least one user control input.

20. The Internet telephone system according to claim 19, wherein the client application executes as a linked library called by a computer operating system executing on the automated processor.
