Abstract

Medicine organizers and methods comprising integrated elements using smart wireless devices to provide assistance to individuals in order to organize or monitor the administration of one or more medications are provided.

Claims

1. An apparatus comprising:

(a) a module including a housing, and at least one compartment configured for storing a medicine vial, said module including a lockable lid;

(b) at least one sensor, said at least once sensor being located within said at least one compartment, said at least once sensor being configured to detect the presence or the absence of said medicine vial in said at least one compartment;

(c) at least one light, said at least one light, wherein said at least one light is capable of being commanded to an illuminated condition to illuminate said at least one compartment at a predetermined medication time;

(d) a wireless controller, said controller being connected to a smart end cap, said controller being capable of opening and locking said lockable lid and illuminating said at least one light;

(e) a smart device, said device being capable of commanding said controller to open said lid and illuminate said at least one light at said predetermined medication time, wherein said smart device executes a software application for alerting a user at said predetermined medication time based on a data set input by said user.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said smart device is a smart phone.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said module further includes a protective end cap.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said at least one light is an LED.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said at least one sensor is an optical sensor.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said wireless controller utilizes a blue-tooth wireless protocol for pairing with said smart device.

7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said data set comprises:

(a) a name of a medicine;

(b) a strength of said medicine; and

(c) a time schedule for dispensing said medicine.

8. The apparatus of claim 1, comprising a plurality of said modules, said plurality of modules being electrically interconnected and configured to be assembled together, wherein said wireless controller connected to said smart end cap is capable of controlling said lockable lid and said at least one light in each of said plurality of modules.

9. An apparatus comprising:

(a) a module including a housing, a compartment, a locking mechanism, and a lockable lid;

(b) a sensor, said sensor being located within said compartment, said sensor being configured to detect the presence of a vial in said compartment;

(c) a light, said light being located to illuminate said compartment, wherein said light is capable of being commanded to an illuminated condition at a predetermined medication time;

(d) a wireless controller, said controller being connected to said housing, said controller being capable of commanding said locking mechanism to open or to lock said lockable lid and to illuminate said light;

(e) a smart device, said device being capable of commanding said wireless controller to open said lid and to illuminate said light at said predetermined medication time, wherein said smart device can be wirelessly paired with said wireless controller and can execute a software application for alerting a user at said predetermined time based on a data set input by a user.

10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein said lid is commanded to an open position and said light is illuminated when said smart device is wirelessly paired with said wireless controller.

11. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein said housing comprises two compartments.

12. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein said light is an LED.

13. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein said sensor is an optical sensor.

14. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein said wireless controller utilizes a blue-tooth wireless protocol for pairing with said smart device.

15. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein said data set comprises:

(a) a name of a medicine;

(b) a strength of said medicine; and

(c) a time schedule for dispensing said medicine.

16. The apparatus of claim 9, further including a plurality of dumb modules, each of said plurality of dumb modules being configured to include a housing, a compartment, a locking mechanism, a sensor, a light and a lockable lid, wherein said plurality of dumb modules can be assembled together and connected to said module thereby providing power and control functions to said plurality of dumb modules.

17. An apparatus comprising:

(a) a housing, said housing including at least one compartment, at least one locking mechanism corresponding with said at least one compartment, and at least one lockable lid corresponding with said at least one compartment;

(b) at least one sensor, said at least one sensor being configured to detect the presence of a vial in said at least one compartment;

(c) at least one light, said at least one light capable of being commanded to an illuminated condition at a predetermined medication time to alert a user;

(d) a controller, said controller being connected to said housing, said controller being capable of commanding said at least one locking mechanism to open or to lock said at least one lockable lid and to illuminate said at least one light;

(e) a smart device, said device being capable of commanding said controller to open said at least one lid and to illuminate said at least one light at said predetermined medication time, wherein said smart device is wirelessly paired with said controller and executes a software application for alerting a user at said predetermined medication time based on a data set input by a user.

18. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein said housing is circular.

19. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein said at least one light is a circular LED.

20. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein said at least one sensor is an optical sensor.

21. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein said controller utilizes a blue-tooth wireless protocol for pairing with said smart device.

22. A method for administration of medicine comprising:

(a) entering a data set into a software application, said application being executed on a smart wireless device;

(b) commanding a lid to an unlocked position;

(c) loading at a medicine vial into a compartment, said compartment including a light;

(d) commanding said lid to a locked position;

(e) receiving an alert from said smart wireless device;

(f) commanding said lid to an unlocked position; and

(g) commanding said light to an illuminated condition, thereby alerting a user that it is time to take said medicine.

23. The method of claim 22, further comprising the step of transmitting a signal from said smart device to a remote database, said signal indicating either a confirmation of dispensing said medicine or a failure to dispense said medicine.

24. The method of claim 22, further comprising the step of transmitting one or more alarms from said smart device when said medicine is not dispensed within a predetermined time of a scheduled dispensing time.

25. The method of claim 22 further comprising the step of sending a signal to a remote database when a user attempts to dispense said medicine before a predetermined time.
