1. A charger system for use with one or more mobile devices for charging or powering the one or more mobile devices inductively, comprising:

  • a base unit comprising primary coils, the primary coils having a generally planar shape; and

a power supply for passing an alternating current through a selection of one or more of the primary coils to generate a magnetic field in a direction substantially perpendicular to the plane of the primary coil, wherein the perpendicular magnetic field is used to inductively generate a current in one or more secondary coils within one or more mobile devices placed close to the base unit, to charge or power the one or more mobile devices, wherein, via an electronic inductive charging circuit, the selection of primary coils in the base unit appropriate to the one or more mobile devices is activated bya short AC signal applied to each primary coil to detect one or more nearby secondary coils, electromagnetic wave communication means, orproximity sensors such as capacitance, weight, magnetic, optical or other sensors that can be used to detect one or more nearby secondary coils thereby initiating power transfer via the electronic inductive charging circuit and the selection of the primary coils, andwherein during power transfer, the voltage input to the base unit or the duty cycle or frequency of the alternating current in the electronic inductive charging circuit is changed to provide appropriate power or voltage to the one or more mobile devices receiving power.
