Abstract

A method and system for facilitating centralized interaction with a user includes providing a recognized voice command to a plurality of application modules. A plurality of interpretations of the voice command are generated by at least one of the plurality of application modules. A centralized interface module visually renders the plurality of interpretations of the voice command on a centralized display. An indication of selection of an interpretation is received from the user.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method of facilitating interaction with a user, the method comprising:

receiving, from an application, one or more grammar commands that correspond to an application command for executing an action by the application;

receiving an indication of a user speech input;

based on the indication, determining one of the grammar commands correlated to the user speech input;

selecting the application command based at least in part on the determined grammar command;

launching the application corresponding to the selected application command; and

providing the selected application command to the corresponding application.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the received one or more grammar commands comprises a plurality of different grammar commands.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 2, wherein the plurality of different grammar commands correspond to alternative forms of the application command.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 3, wherein the alternative forms of the grammar command have the same definition of the application command.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein receiving the one or more grammar commands comprises:

receiving, by a centralized speech module, the one or more grammar commands, and wherein the centralized speech module selects the application command and provides the selected application command to the corresponding application.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, and further comprising:

defining an operational instruction to the application based at least in part on the application command and a portion correlated to the user speech input.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the determined grammar command is based at least in part on terms determined by a speech recognizer processing the user speech input.

8. A computer-implemented system comprising:

a speech capture module configured to capture speech from a user;

an application module configured to receive an application command for executing an action by the application module;

a grammar including one or more grammar commands that correspond to the application command; and

a centralized interface module configured to;

receive an indication of the captured speech;

based on the indication of the capture speech, recognize the application command based on the one or more grammar commands; and

send the recognized application command to the application module for execution.

The computer-implemented system of claim 8, further comprising a speech recognizer configured to determine a grammar command, from the one or more grammar commands, that corresponds to the captured speech, wherein the grammar command is determined based at least in part on one or more terms identified from the captured speech.

10. The computer-implemented system of claim 8, wherein the one or more grammar commands comprises a plurality of different grammar commands.

11. The computer-implemented system of claim 10, wherein the plurality of different grammar commands correspond to alternative forms of the application command.

12. The computer-implemented system of claim 11, wherein the alternative forms of the grammar command have the same definition of the application command.

13. The computer-implemented system of claim 8, wherein the centralized interface module is configured to launch the application module to execute the application command.

14. A computer-implemented method to facilitate speech based interaction of an application, the method comprising:

providing one or more grammar commands that correspond to an application command for executing an action by the application;

receiving an application command based at least in part on the grammar command; and

executing, by the application, the action based on the received application command.

15. The computer-implemented method of claim 14, and further comprising:

receiving an indication of a portion of user speech, wherein the grammar command is determined based on a correlation of the user speech to one of the grammar commands.

16. The computer-implemented method of claim 14, wherein the one or more grammar commands comprises a plurality of different grammar commands.

17. The computer-implemented method of claim 16, wherein the plurality of different grammar commands correspond to alternative forms of the application command.

18. The computer-implemented method of claim 17, wherein the alternative forms of the grammar command have the same definition of the application command.

19. The computer-implemented method of claim 14, wherein providing the one or more grammar commands comprises:

providing the one or more grammar commands to a centralized speech module.

20. The computer-implemented method of claim 14, and further comprising:

defining an operational instruction based at least in part on the application command and a portion correlated to user speech.
