Abstract

A system and method of a telephony application platform can include receiving a communication session request specifying a destination endpoint, connecting the communication session through a first application module according to the destination endpoint, receiving an instruction to transition communication control to a second application module, transitioning communication control of the communication session to the second application module, independently metering resource usage of the communication session of each application module, and accounting the metered usage of the communication session.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

a telephony communication application platform system directing a first module to control communication of a first communication session of the platform system for a first time period of the first communication session;

the platform system transitioning control of the first communication session to a second module, wherein the second module controls communication of the first communication session for a second time period of the first communication session that is different from the first time period;

the platform system accounting for metered use of the first module for a unique identifier of the first communication session according to a duration of the first time period; and

the platform system accounting for metered use of the second module for the unique identifier of the first communication session according to a duration of the second time period.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the first module is a module of the platform system.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the second module is a module of the platform system.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the first module is a module of an external system.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the second module is a module of an external system.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the platform system is a hardware system.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein functionality of the first module is different from functionality of the second module.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

the platform system metering use of the first module during the first time period; and

the platform system metering use of the second module during the second time period.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the platform system accounts for metered use of the first module according to a usage plan, and wherein the platform system accounts for metered use of the second module according the usage plan.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the platform system accounts for metered use of the first module according to a first usage plan of the first module, and wherein the platform system accounts for metered use of the second module according to a second usage plan of the second module.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the platform system accounts for metered use of the first module according to a first rate of the first usage plan, and wherein the platform system accounts for metered use of the second module according to a second rate of the second usage plan.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the platform system accounts for metered use of the first module according to a first rate, and wherein the platform system accounts for metered use of the second module according to a second rate.

13. A telephony communication application platform system comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one computer-readable medium storing computer readable instructions,

wherein the computer readable instructions comprise computer readable instructions of a first module and computer readable instructions of a second module,

wherein the at least one processor is constructed to execute the computer readable instructions,

wherein the computer readable instructions comprise instructions for controlling the telephony communication application platform system to;

direct the first module to control communication of a first communication session of the platform system for a first time period of the first communication session;

transition control of the first communication session to the second module, wherein the second module is constructed to control communication of the first communication session for a second time period of the first communication session that is different from the first time period,

account for metered use of the first module for a unique identifier of the first communication session according to a duration of the first time period, and

account for metered use of the second module for the unique identifier of the first communication session according to a duration of the second time period.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein functionality of the first module is different from functionality of the second module.

15. The system of claim 13, wherein the computer readable instructions comprise instructions for controlling the platform system to meter use of the first module during the first time period, and meter use of the second module during the second time period.

16. The system of claim 13, wherein the platform system is constructed to account for metered use of the first module according to a usage plan, and wherein the platform system is constructed to account for metered use of the second module according the usage plan.

17. The system of claim 13, wherein the platform system is constructed to account for metered use of the first module according to a first usage plan of the first module, and wherein the platform system is constructed to account for metered use of the second module according to a second usage plan of the second module.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the platform system is constructed to account for metered use of the first module according to a first rate of the first usage plan, and wherein the platform system is constructed to account for metered use of the second module according to a second rate of the second usage plan.

19. The system of claim 13, wherein the platform system is constructed to account for metered use of the first module according to a first rate, and wherein the platform system is constructed to account for metered use of the second module according to a second rate.
