Abstract

A prosthetic foot comprises an attachment member and two or more flexible members. The attachment member can include a connector configured to connect the attachment member to a user or another prosthetic device. The two or more flexible members can be rotatably attached to the attachment member by rotatable joints such that the flexible members can both rotate and flex relative to the attachment member when the prosthetic foot contacts the ground.

42. A prosthetic foot comprising:

an attachment member comprising a connector configured to connect the attachment member to a user or another prosthetic device; and

two or more flexible members directly attached to each other along a foot portion of the prosthetic foot and separately connected to the attachment member by independent rotatable connections such that both rotation of the flexible members relative to the attachment member and flexion of the flexible members'"'"' shape can be caused by contact between the prosthetic foot and the ground, independent of other forces, wherein at least one of the flexible members extends rearwardly from a proximal end and then forwardly to the distal end of the foot member.

43. The prosthetic foot of claim 42, wherein at least one of the flexible members connects to the attachment member via an actuator.

44. The prosthetic foot of claim 43, wherein the actuator is a powered actuator.

45. The prosthetic foot of claim 44, wherein the powered actuator is configured to power motion of at least one of the two or more flexible members.

46. The prosthetic foot of claim 43, wherein the actuator is a passive actuator.

47. The prosthetic foot of claim 42, further comprising a third flexible member, the third flexible member disposed beneath the two or more flexible members, and generally extending from a heel end to a toe end of the prosthetic foot.

48. The prosthetic foot of claim 42, wherein the two or more flexible members define a rearward facing gap therebetween.

49. The prosthetic foot of claim 48, further comprising an actuator disposed between the two or more flexible members to adjust a size of the rearward facing gap.

50. A prosthetic foot comprising:

an attachment member disposed at an ankle position of the prosthetic foot, the attachment member comprising a connector configured to connect the attachment member to a user or another prosthetic device;

a powered actuator coupled to a posterior portion of the adapter by a rotatable connection at a first end of the actuator;

a first flexible member coupled to an anterior portion of the adapter by a rotatable connection and extending forward toward a toe portion of the prosthetic foot;

a second flexible member coupled to a second end of the actuator by a rotatable connection; and

a third flexible member disposed below the second flexible member to contact a ground surface while the prosthetic foot is in use, wherein posterior portions of the second and third flexible members define a rearward-facing gap.

51. The prosthetic foot of claim 50, wherein the powered actuator comprises an active actuator.

52. The prosthetic foot of claim 50, wherein the third flexible member generally extends from a heel end to a toe end of the prosthetic foot.

53. The prosthetic foot of claim 50, wherein the first flexible member extends rearwardly from a proximal end and then forwardly to the distal end of the foot member.

54. The prosthetic foot of claim 50, wherein the posterior portions of the first flexible member and the second flexible member define a rearward-facing gap.

55. A prosthetic foot comprising:

an attachment member disposed at an ankle position of the prosthetic foot, the attachment member comprising a connector configured to connect the attachment member to a user or another prosthetic device;

a first flexible member having a proximal end and a distal end, the proximal end of the first flexible member coupled to an anterior portion of the attachment member by a rotatable connection;

a second flexible member disposed below the first flexible member, the second flexible member having a proximal end and a distal end, the proximal end of the second flexible member located proximally of the proximal end of first foot member and operatively coupled to a posterior portion of the attachment member; and

a third flexible member disposed below second flexible member and extending between a proximal end and a distal end, the third flexible member configured to contact a support surface while the prosthetic foot is in use, wherein the proximal ends of the second and third flexible members define a gap that expands toward a distal end of the prosthetic foot.

56. The prosthetic foot of claim 55, wherein the second flexible member couples to the posterior portion of the attachment member via an actuator.

57. The prosthetic foot of claim 56, wherein the actuator is a powered actuator.

58. The prosthetic foot of claim 57, wherein the powered actuator is an active actuator.

59. The prosthetic foot of claim 56, wherein the actuator is a passive actuator.

60. The prosthetic foot of claim 55, wherein the third member generally extends from a heel end to a toe end of the prosthetic foot.

61. The prosthetic foot of claim 55, wherein the first flexible member extends rearwardly from a proximal end and then forwardly to the distal end of the foot member.
