Abstract

The communications method may include opening a communication channel, e.g. a HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) connection, between a service event source and an event management platform, and at the event management platform, generating a request to the service event source, the request including information associated with the communication channel and requested event information related to a plurality of services offered by the service event source for a mobile wireless device associated with a given service user; sending the request to the service event source. The communication channel is maintained open to receive notifications transmitted from the service event source including requested event information related to the plurality of services offered by the service event source and related to the single service user. The notifications are provided to the mobile wireless device associated with the given service user.

Claims

1. A communications method comprising:

at an event management platform, generating a request to a service event source, the request being related to at least one service of the service event source and at least one mobile wireless device associated with at least one user;

sending the request to the service event source over an open communication channel between the service event source and the event management platform; and

maintaining the communication channel open to receive notifications transmitted from the service event source, the notifications including at least one response to the request related to the at least one service of the service event source and the at least one mobile wireless device associated with the at least one user.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising the event management platform providing the notifications to the at least one mobile wireless device.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the request relates to one mobile wireless device associated with a corresponding user.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the request relates to a plurality of services of the service event source.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the service event source comprises an email server.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the at least one service comprises a plurality of services, each service corresponding to a mailbox at the service event source associated with a user.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the request comprises a communication channel identifier for the communication channel.

8. A system, comprising:

an event management platform server comprising at least one processor and communications system configured to;

generate a request related to at least one service of a service event source and at least one mobile wireless device associated with at least one user;

transmit the request to the service event source over an open communication channel between the service event source and the event management platform server; and

maintain the communication channel open to receive notifications transmitted from the service event source, the notifications including at least one response to the request related to the at least one service of the service event source and the at least one mobile wireless device associated with the at least one user.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein the at least one processor and communications system are further configured to provide the notifications to the at least one mobile wireless device.

10. The system of claim 8, wherein the request relates to one mobile wireless device associated with a corresponding user.

11. The system of claim 8, wherein the request relates to a plurality of services of the service event source.

12. The system of claim 8, wherein the communications channel comprises at least one of a HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) connection, a pull channel, a synchronous communication channel, or a network socket

13. The system of claim 8, wherein the service event source comprises an email server.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the at least one service comprises a plurality of services, each service corresponding to a mailbox at the service event source associated with a user.

15. The system of claim 8, wherein the request comprises a communication channel identifier for the communication channel.

16. A non-transitory computer-readable medium bearing code which, when executed by at least one processor of a computer system in an event management platform, causes the system to implement the method of:

generating a request to a service event source, the request being related to at least one service of the service event source and at least one mobile wireless device associated with at least one user;

sending the request to the service event source over an open communication channel between the service event source and the event management platform; and

maintaining the communication channel open to receive notifications transmitted from the service event source, the notifications including at least one response to the request related to the at least one service of the service event source and the at least one mobile wireless device associated with the at least one user.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 16, wherein the method further comprises opening the communication channel between the service event source and the event management platform, and providing the notifications to the at least one mobile wireless device.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 17, wherein the request comprises information associated with the communication channel and information associated with the at least one service.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 16, wherein the request relates to a plurality of services of the service event source.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19, wherein the service event source comprises an email server and the plurality of services correspond to a plurality of mailboxes at the service event source associated with a user.
