Abstract

Provided herein is a method of pulmonary delivering to a subject at least one pharmacologically active agent being in a plant material, which is effected by pulmonary delivering the agent to the subject using a metered dose inhaler device that is configured to vaporize at least one pre-determined vaporized amount of the agent upon controllably heating the plant material, wherein the pre-determined vaporized amount is selected so as to achieve at least one pre-determined pharmacokinetic effect and/or at least one pre-determined pharmacodynamic effect induced by the agent in the subject.

Claims

1. A method of pulmonary delivering to a subject at least one pharmacologically active agent, the method comprising:

vaporizing a first metered amount of at least one pharmacologically active agent;

pulmonary delivering of the first metered amount to the subject from an inhaler device;

receiving at a controller associated with the inhaler device monitoring data indicative of at least one effect induced in the subject by the first metered amount; and

vaporizing, within a treatment regimen including the pulmonary delivering of the first metered amount, a second metered amount of at least one pharmacologically active agent, wherein a magnitude of the second metered amount is automatically controlled by the controller based at least partially on the monitoring data.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the vaporizing the second metered amount is during the at least one effect induced in the subject by the first metered amount.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the first metered amount and the second metered amount are respectively vaporized from substances containing different compositions of pharmacologically active agent.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one pharmacologically active agent vaporized in the first metered amount and the at least one pharmacologically active agent vaporized in the second metered amount together comprise a plurality of chemically different pharmacologically active agents;

and wherein the first metered amount and the second metered amount comprise different compositions of the plurality of chemically different pharmacologically active agents.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the vaporizings comprise heating of the at least one agent of the first metered amount and the at least one agent of the second metered amount.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein controlling the magnitude of the second metered amount by the controller comprises controlling said heating.

7. The method of claim 5, wherein controlling the magnitude of the first metered amount by the controller comprises controlling said heating.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the magnitude of the first metered amount is controlled by the controller for exhibiting a selected effect of the first metered amount in the subject.

The method of claim 8, wherein the magnitude of the second metered amount is controlled by the controller to induce an effect adjusting an induced effect of the first metered amount, the induced effect of the first metered amount differing from the selected effect, upon pulmonary delivery of the second metered amount.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the monitoring data is received at the controller from a user interface device.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one effect comprises at least one of the group consisting of a pharmacokinetic effect and a pharmacodynamic effect.

The method of claim 11, wherein said pharmacokinetic effect is selected from the group consisting of a concentration of said at least one agent of the first metered amount in a given volume of a bodily fluid and a concentration of either of said at least one agent of the first amount in a given mass of a bodily tissue.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein said pharmacodynamic effect is selected from the group consisting of a desired effect, an undesired effect, a therapeutic effect, an adverse effect and a level of a biomarker.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein said biomarker is selected from the group consisting of an invasively-detected biomarker and a non-invasively-detected biomarker.

15. The method of claim 13, wherein said pharmacodynamic effect is a psychotropic effect and/or a somatic effect.

The method of claim 11, wherein the magnitude of the second metered amount is selected to induce a pre-selected profile of the pharmacokinetic and/or pharmacodynamic effect, based on a difference between the pharmacokinetic and/or pharmacodynamic effect indicated by the monitoring data, and the pre-selected profile.

17. The method of claim 1, wherein a timing of the vaporizing of the second metered amount is controlled by the controller based on the monitoring data.

18. The method of claim 1, wherein at least one of the first metered amount and the second metered amount comprises pharmacologically active agent vaporized from a plant material.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the plant material is of a plant selected from the group consisting of Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica, Cannabis ruderalis, Nicotiana tabacum, and Nicotiana rustica.

20. The method of claim 1, wherein at least one of the first metered amount and the second metered amount comprises pharmacologically active agent selected from the group consisting of Δ

9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD), cannabigerols (CBG), cannabichromenes (CBC), cannabinol (CBN), cannabinodiol (CBDL), cannabicyclol (CBL), cannabielsoin (CBE), cannabidivarin (CBDV), tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) and cannabitriol (CBT).

21. The method of claim 1, wherein at least one pharmacologically active agent is chemically present in only one of the first metered amount and the second metered amount.

22. The method of claim 1, wherein at least one pharmacologically active agent is chemically present in both of the first metered amount and the second metered amount.

23. A system for control of pulmonary delivery of pharmacologically active agent, the system comprising:

an inhaler device operable for pulmonary delivery of at least one vaporized, pharmacologically active agent to a subject, the device including;

a repository, configured to hold a substance comprising pharmacologically active agent;

a power source, operable to deliver power to vaporize the pharmacologically active agent from the substance; and

a controller, configured to control delivery of power to the substance, thereby vaporizing metered amounts of the pharmacologically active agent; and

an interface operable to interact with the subject and obtain monitoring data indicative of at least one effect induced in the subject by a vaporized first metered amount of pharmacologically active agent delivered to the subject from the inhaler device;

wherein the controller is configured to control delivery of power to the substance to vaporize a second metered amount of pharmacologically active agent for pulmonary delivery to the subject; and

wherein the controller is configured to automatically control a magnitude of the second metered amount of pharmacologically active agent based at least partially on the monitoring data received from the interface.

24. The system of claim 23, wherein the inhaler device includes heating means, and the controlled delivery of power comprises control of the operation of the heating means.

25. The system of claim 23, wherein the interface comprises a computerized user interface, and the interaction with the subject comprises operation of the computerized user interface by the subject.

26. The system of claim 23, wherein the interface comprises a sensor in communication with the controller to provide the monitoring data, and the interaction with the subject comprises sensing of the at least one effect induced in the subject by the sensor.

27. The system of claim 23, wherein the first metered amount and the second metered amount are vaporized from substances containing different compositions of pharmacologically active agent.

28. The system of claim 23, wherein the second metered amount of pharmacologically active agent is delivered during the at least one effect induced in the subject by the first metered amount.

29. The system of claim 23, wherein the magnitude of the second metered amount is controlled by the controller to adjust an induced effect indicated by the monitoring data, the magnitude being selected to re-select a selected effect of the first metered amount.
