Abstract

The present invention generally relates to compositions and methods for topical or transdermal delivery, treatment of skin, and improving the appearance of skin, e.g., medically or cosmetically. In some cases, the composition may include nitric oxide and/or peptides such as thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) and/or GnRH (gonadotropin-releasing hormone). The nitric oxide and/or peptide may be present within a first phase comprising a lecithin, such as phosphatidylcholine. In certain embodiments, the lecithin is present in liposomes, micelles, or other structures containing nitric oxide, peptides, or both. The composition can take the form of a gel, a cream, a lotion, an ointment, a solution, a solid “stick,” etc., that can be rubbed or sprayed onto the skin. Other aspects of the present invention are generally directed to methods of making or using such compositions, methods of promoting such compositions, kits including such compositions, or the like.

Claims

131. A method of improving skin appearance, comprising:

administering, to the skin of a subject, a composition comprising an effective amount of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) and molecular nitric oxide to improve skin appearance, and a carrier comprising lecithin containing the molecular nitric oxide, wherein the composition is stable at room temperature.

132. The method of claim 131, wherein the carrier further comprises polyenylphosphatidylcholine.

133. The method of claim 131, wherein the composition comprises a liquid crystal structure.

134. The method of claim 131, wherein the composition comprises no more than about 250 ppm of water by weight of the composition.

135. The method of claim 131, wherein the lecithin is present at at least about 0.25% by weight of the composition.

136. The method of claim 131, wherein the molecular nitric oxide is present at at least about 0.5% by weight of the composition without nitric oxide.

137. The method of claim 131, wherein the molecular nitric oxide is present within the composition as a gas.

138. The method of claim 131, wherein the molecular nitric oxide is bound by hydrogen bonds or van der Waals forces to the lecithin.

139. The method of claim 131, wherein the composition is a cream.

140. The method of claim 131, wherein the skin of the subject is aging skin.

141. The method of claim 131, wherein the skin of the subject is wrinkled.

142. The method of claim 131, wherein the skin has been damaged due to exposure to ultraviolet light.

143. The method of claim 131, wherein the skin is sunburned skin.

144. A method of improving skin appearance, comprising:

administering, to the skin of a subject, a composition comprising an effective amount of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) and molecular nitric oxide to improve skin appearance, and a carrier comprising lecithin containing the molecular nitric oxide, wherein the composition comprises no more than about 250 ppm of water by weight of the composition.

145. The method of claim 144, wherein the carrier further comprises polyenylphosphatidylcholine.

146. The method of claim 144, wherein the composition comprises a liquid crystal structure.

147. The method of claim 144, wherein the composition is stable at room temperature.

148. The method of claim 144, wherein the lecithin is present at at least about 0.25% by weight of the composition.

149. The method of claim 144, wherein the molecular nitric oxide is present at at least about 0.5% by weight of the composition without nitric oxide.

150. The method of claim 144, wherein the molecular nitric oxide is present within the composition as a gas.

151. The method of claim 144, wherein the molecular nitric oxide is bound by hydrogen bonds or van der Waals forces to the lecithin.

152. The method of claim 144, wherein the composition is a cream.
