Abstract

A Self-Service Terminal (SST) plinth is provided. The SST plinth includes one or more fastening mechanisms, a power supply, and one or more communication ports. The fastening mechanisms are configured to fasten an SST to the SST plinth. The SST is powered through the power supply of the plinth. Modules of the SST connect to some of the communication ports, and cabling connects external resources of the SST to the SST though other ones of the plinth'"'"'s communication ports.

Claims

1. An apparatus, comprising:

an internal interface port;

external interface ports;

a power supply; and

a secure fastening mechanism;

wherein apparatus is configured to;

i) attach a Self-Service Terminal (SST) to the interface port, ii) provide communication over at least one external interface port when the SST is attached to the interface port, iii) provide power to the SST from the power supply when the SST is attached, and iv) securely fasten the SST to the apparatus through the secure fastening mechanism.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the apparatus is further configured to:

v) permit the SST to be detached from the secure fastening mechanism.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the interface port includes an interface to the power supply.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the interface port includes an interface to multiple independent peripherals integrated into the SST when the SST is attached to the interface port.

5. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein the interface port routes through the apparatus to multiple ones of the external interface ports.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the secure fastening mechanism includes two separate fastening mechanism:

a first fastening mechanism for securely fastening the SST to the apparatus and a second fastening mechanism for securely fastening the apparatus to a surface or a structure.

7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the apparatus includes wheels on an underside of the apparatus to provide mobility to the apparatus.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 further including a vertical base member and when the SST is attached to the apparatus, a bottom of the SST is fastened through the secure fastening mechanism to a top of the vertical base member.

9. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the vertical base member is height adjustable to raise and lower a height of the vertical base member.

10. The apparatus of claim 1 further including:

a second interface port;

second external interface ports; and

a second secure fastening mechanism;

wherein the apparatus is further configured to;

v) attach a second SST to the second interface port, vi) provide communication over at least one second external interface port when the second SST is attached to the second interface port, vii) provide shared power to the SST and the second SST from the power supply when the SST and the second SST are attached, and viii) securely fasten the second SST to the apparatus through the second secure fastening mechanism.

11. The apparatus of claim 1 further including:

a computing core configured to provide computing to the SST when the SST is attached to the apparatus.

12. An apparatus, comprising:

a secure housing;

a media handling device interfaced inside the secure housing;

an interface port situated inside the secure housing; and

a secure fastening mechanism situated inside the secure housing;

wherein the apparatus is configured to;

i) securely fasten to a plinth apparatus through the secure fastening mechanism, ii) draw power from a power supply of the plinth to power the apparatus, iii) interact with external devices that are external to the apparatus through external ports of the plinth when the interface port is attached to a plinth interface port.

13. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein apparatus is a Self-Service Terminal (SST).

14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the SST is one of:

an Automated Teller Machine (ATM), a kiosk, and a Point-Of-Sale (POS) terminal.

15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the media handling device is one or more of a currency note and check:

a depositor device, a dispenser device, and a currency note recycler device.

16. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the apparatus is further configured to:

iv) process computing resources through the interface port on a computing core that resides on the plinth.

17. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein apparatus is further configured to:

iv) utilize hardware storage through the interface port on a storage device that resides on the plinth.

18. A method, comprising:

providing a plinth interface port of a plinth for connecting a Self-Service Terminal (SST) interface port of an SST to the plinth;

providing a secure fastening mechanism on the plinth for securely fastening the SST to the plinth;

supplying a power supply residing in the plinth to the SST for powering the SST during operation of the SST; and

providing external interface ports for connecting cabling to external devices that communicate with the SST during operation of the SST through communications sent over the cabling to the external interface ports and routed within the plinth to the plinth interface port and onto the SST interface port.

19. The method of claim 18 further comprising, providing a second secure fastening mechanism on the plinth for securely fastening the plinth to a surface or a structure.

20. The method of claim 18, further comprising, supplying an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) residing in the plinth to the SST when electrical power to the power supply is unavailable to the plinth.
