Abstract
A disclosed mounting device for a portable video capture device includes a main body, a first coupling device, and a second coupling device. The main body includes a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver. The first coupling device provides a mechanical coupling between the main body and a mounting surface, and the second coupling device provides an electrical and mechanical coupling between the main body and the portable video capture device. The GPS receiver includes a GPS antenna and a GPS module. The GPS module includes circuitry that receives GPS signals from the GPS antenna and provides the received GPS signals to the portable video capture device through the electrical coupling provided by the second coupling device. A disclosed method includes generating, from the GPS signals, position information that is updated at a rate of no less than 6 Hz, and transmitting the position information to the portable video capture device.
