Abstract

According to another example, a wearable medical device controller is provided. The device controller includes a memory and a processor coupled to the memory. The processor is configured to determine a correlation between a phenomenon identifiable by the wearable medical device controller and at least one response pattern associated with a patient and store, responsive to detecting the correlation, an adaptation path to address the at least one response pattern, the adaptation path specifying an adaptation of at least one characteristic of an alarm. The at least one response pattern may include a plurality of response patterns and the adaptation path may reflect adaptations made to address at least some of the plurality of response patterns.

24. An ambulatory medical device comprising:

one or more physiological sensors configured to acquire cardiopulmonary data from a patient, the cardiopulmonary data comprising one or more of electrocardiogram (ECG) data, heart rate data, and respiration data;

one or more environmental sensors configured to monitor one or more environmental parameters of an environment of the ambulatory medical device; and

at least one processor operatively coupled to the one or more physiological sensors and the one or more environmental sensors and configured to

detect a physiological condition of the patient based at the cardiopulmonary data,

identify a notification associated with the physiological condition of the patient, the notification having one or more characteristics,

detect an environmental condition of the ambulatory medical device based on the one or more environmental parameters,

adapt the one or more characteristics of the notification in response to detecting the environmental condition, and

issue the notification to a recipient.

25. The ambulatory medical device of claim 24, wherein the one or more environmental sensors includes at one or more of an atmospheric sensor, a thermometer, an airflow sensor, a video sensor, an audio sensor, an accelerometer, a global positioning system sensor, and a hygrometer.

26. The ambulatory medical device of claim 24, wherein the environmental condition comprises excessive motion.

27. The ambulatory medical device of claim 24, wherein the environmental condition comprises high humidity.

28. The ambulatory medical device of claim 24, wherein the environmental condition comprises an improper fitting of the ambulatory medical device to the patient.

29. The ambulatory medical device of claim 24, wherein the environmental condition comprises an environmental condition correlated with false alarms.

30. The ambulatory medical device of claim 24, wherein the environmental condition comprises excessive sensory stimulation.

31. The ambulatory medical device of claim 30, wherein the excessive sensory stimulation comprises excessive ambient noise.

32. The ambulatory medical device of claim 24, wherein the environmental condition includes a geographic location of the ambulatory medical device.

33. The ambulatory medical device of claim 24, further comprising at least one defibrillator electrode operably coupled to the at least one processor and configured to treat the patient.

34. The ambulatory medical device of claim 33, wherein the ambulatory medical device is wearable.

35. The ambulatory medical device of claim 24, wherein the at least one processor is configured to adapt the notification to one or more of an extended response time and an adjusted intensity.

36. The ambulatory medical device of claim 24, wherein the recipient is a person other than the patient.

37. An ambulatory medical device comprising:

one or more physiological sensors configured to acquire cardiopulmonary data from a patient, the cardiopulmonary data comprising one or more of electrocardiogram (ECG) data, heart rate data, and respiration data;

one or more environmental sensors configured to monitor one or more environmental parameters of an environment of the ambulatory medical device; and

at least one processor operatively coupled to the one or more physiological sensors and the one or more environmental sensors and configured to

detect a physiological condition of the patient based at the cardiopulmonary data,

identify a notification associated with the physiological condition of the patient, the notification having one or more characteristics,

detect an environmental condition of the ambulatory medical device based on the one or more environmental parameters, the environmental condition being correlated with false alarms,

adapt the one or more characteristics of the notification in response detecting to the environmental condition, and

issue the notification to a recipient.

38. The ambulatory medical device of claim 37, wherein the environmental condition comprises excessive motion.

39. The ambulatory medical device of claim 37, wherein the environmental condition comprises high humidity.

40. The ambulatory medical device of claim 37, wherein the environmental condition comprises an improper fitting of the ambulatory medical device to the patient.

41. A method of adapting notifications issued from an ambulatory medical device comprising one or more environmental sensors, one or more physiological sensors, a memory, and at least one processor coupled to the memory, the one or more environmental sensors, and the one or more physiological sensors, the method comprising:

monitoring one or more environmental parameters of an environment of the ambulatory medical device;

acquiring cardiopulmonary data from a patient, the cardiopulmonary data comprising one or more of electrocardiogram (ECG) data, heart rate data, and respiration data;

detecting a physiological condition of the patient based at the cardiopulmonary data;

identify a notification associated with the physiological condition of the patient, the notification having one or more characteristics;

detecting an environmental condition of the ambulatory medical device based on the one or more environmental parameters;

adapting the one or more characteristics of the notification in response detecting to the environmental condition; and

issuing the notification to a recipient.

42. The method of claim 41, wherein detecting the environmental condition comprises detecting an environmental condition correlated with false alarms.

43. The method of claim 41, wherein detecting the environmental condition comprises detecting one or more of excessive motion, high humidity, and improper fitting of the ambulatory medical device to the patient.
