1. A computer-implemented method of processing an image, comprising:
- receiving an image captured by a mobile device;
performing a shape detection test on the image to produce a first set of coordinates representing a set of edges of the image;
performing a feature detection test on the image to produce a second set of coordinates associated with a feature set of the image;
combining the first set of coordinates and the second set of coordinates to generate a set of adjustment parameters associated with the image;
adjusting the image based at least on the adjustment parameters;
binarizing the adjusted image to produce a binarized adjusted image; and
outputting the binarized adjusted image.

Abstract
Systems and methods are provided for processing and extracting content from an image captured using a mobile device. In one embodiment, an image is captured by a mobile device and corrected to improve the quality of the image. The corrected image is then further processed by adjusting the image, identifying the format and layout of the DL, binarizing the image and extracting the content using optical character recognition (OCR). Multiple methods of image adjusting may be implemented to accurately assess features of the DL, and a secondary layout identification process may be performed to ensure that the content being extracted is properly classified.

a processor; a memory coupled to the processor; a receiving unit which receives an image captured by a mobile device, wherein the image includes an image; a shape detection unit which performs a shape detection test on the image to produce a first set of coordinates representing a set of edges of the image; a feature detection unit which performs a feature detection test on the image to produce a second set of coordinates associated with the image; an adjustment parameter generation unit which combines the first set of coordinates and the second set of coordinates to generate a set of adjustment parameters; an adjusting unit which adjusts the image based at least on the adjustment parameters to remove a portion of the image to obtain the adjusted image; a binarization unit which binarizes the adjusted image to produce a binarized adjusted image; and an output unit which outputs the binarized adjusted image. - View Dependent Claims (14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
