Abstract

A method and an apparatus for wireless power transmission by a power transmitting apparatus is provided. The method includes transmitting detection power towards a power receiving apparatus, detecting an impedance change made by the power receiving apparatus, transmitting driving power for communication with the power receiving apparatus towards the power receiving apparatus, receiving a search signal from the power receiving apparatus within a preset time, and determining whether the impedance change is within a first acceptable range based on the received search signal.

Claims

1. A method for wireless power transmission by a power transmitting apparatus, the method comprising:

transmitting detection power towards a power receiving apparatus;

detecting an impedance change made by the power receiving apparatus;

transmitting driving power for communication with the power receiving apparatus towards the power receiving apparatus;

receiving a search signal from the power receiving apparatus within a preset time; and

determining whether the impedance change is within a first acceptable range based on the received search signal.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

if the search signal is not received from the power receiving apparatus within the preset time, determining the power receiving apparatus as invalid materials; and

stopping transmission of the driving power towards the power receiving apparatus.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

if the impedance change is within the first acceptable range, transmitting an approval message to the power receiving apparatus.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

if the impedance change is not within the first acceptable range, determining the power receiving apparatus as invalid materials; and

stopping transmission of the driving power towards the power receiving apparatus.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

storing a power management table including state information for power transmission on at least one power receiving apparatus.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the state information includes an Identifier (ID), reference load, reference current, reference voltage, reference efficiency, power transmission state, input voltage, input current, output voltage, and output current of the power receiving apparatus.

7. The method of claim 5, further comprising:

receiving a state message from the power receiving apparatus; and

determining a transmission power value using the stored power management table and the received state message.

8. The method of claim 6, further comprising:

identifying information regarding the at least one power receiving apparatus to be charged;

determining whether a leakage power value of the at least one power receiving apparatus to be charged is within a second acceptable range based on the information; and

transmitting wireless power towards the power receiving apparatus based on the leakage power value being within the second acceptable range.

9. The method of claim 8, further comprising:

if the leakage power value is not within the second acceptable range, determining the power receiving apparatus as invalid materials; and

stopping transmission of the driving power towards the power receiving apparatus.

10. A power transmitting apparatus for wireless power transmission, the power transmitting apparatus comprising:

a resonator;

a communication unit; and

a controller configured to at least control to;

transmit detection power through the resonator towards a power receiving apparatus,

detect an impedance change made by the power receiving apparatus,

transmit driving power for communication with the power receiving apparatus, through the resonator, towards the power receiving apparatus,

receive a search signal from the power receiving apparatus within a preset time, through the communication unit,

determine whether the impedance change is within a first acceptable range based on the search signal, and

transmit an approval message towards the power receiving apparatus, through the communication unit, based on the impedance change being within the acceptable range.

11. The power transmitting apparatus of claim 10, wherein the controller is further configured to control to:

if the search signal is not received from the power receiving apparatus within the preset time, determine the power receiving apparatus as invalid materials, and

stop transmission of the driving power towards the power receiving apparatus.

12. The power transmitting apparatus of claim 10, wherein the controller is further configured to control to, if the impedance change is within the first acceptable range, transmit the approval message towards the power receiving apparatus.

13. The power transmitting apparatus of claim 10, wherein the controller is further configured to control to:

if the impedance change is not within the first acceptable range, determine the power receiving apparatus as invalid materials, and

stop transmission of the driving power towards the power receiving apparatus.

14. The power transmitting apparatus of claim 10, wherein the controller is further configured to control to store a power management table including state information for power transmission on at least one power receiving apparatus.

The power transmitting apparatus of claim 14, wherein the state information includes an Identifier (ID), reference load, reference current, reference voltage, reference efficiency, power transmission state, input voltage, input current, output voltage, and output current of the power receiving apparatus.

16. The power transmitting apparatus of claim 15, wherein the controller is further configured to control to:

receive a state message from the power receiving apparatus, and

determine a transmission power value using the stored power management table and the state message.

17. The power transmitting apparatus of claim 15, wherein the controller is further configured to control to:

identify information regarding the at least one power receiving apparatus to be charged,

determine a leakage power value of the at least one power receiving apparatus to be charged is within a second acceptable range based on the information, and

control to transmit wireless power towards the power receiving apparatus based on the leakage power value being within the second acceptable range.

18. The power transmitting apparatus of claim 17, wherein the controller is further configured to control to:

if the leakage power value is not within the second acceptable range, determine the power receiving apparatus as invalid materials, and

stop transmission of the driving power towards the power receiving apparatus.
