Abstract

An athletic training system (200) has a data recording system (202) and a data engine (204). The data recording system (202) is configured to record an athletic competition event. The event may have a first team of players competing against a second team of players. The data engine (204) is configured to receive data associated with the recorded athletic competition event. The data engine (204) processes the data and displays the data as a replay of the event in animated form.

Claims

1. An athletic training system comprising:

a data recording system configured to record an athletic event by a first athlete; and

a data engine having a display operably associated therewith and configured to receive data associated with the recorded athletic event and to generate, alter or enhance a video replay of the recorded athletic event,

wherein the data engine processes the data and displays the data on the display as a replay of the athletic event in animated form wherein the first athlete is represented by an avatar and a movement of the avatar on the display is based on a performance of the first athlete during the recorded athletic event.

The athletic training system of claim 1, wherein the avatar is individually user-selectable, wherein selection of the avatar is configured to cause the data engine to display an athletic performance metric for the first athlete, wherein the athletic performance metric corresponds to a metric of the first athlete at a current time of the replay.

3. The athletic training system of claim 1, wherein the data recording system includes a plurality of cameras configured to record video of the athletic competition event.

4. The athletic training system of claim 3, wherein the data engine is further configured to determine one or more athletic performance metrics based on the recorded athletic event.

The athletic training system of claim 1, wherein the data recording system includes one or more motion sensors attached to the first athlete participating in the athletic event and wherein the data engine is further configured to determine athlete performance metrics based on data from the one or more motion sensors.

6. The athletic training system of claim 5, wherein the athlete performance metrics include one or more of speed, endurance and distance.

7. An athletic training system comprising:

a data recording system configured to record a first individual'"'"'s performance in a first athletic event; and

a data engine having a display operably associated therewith, the data engine configured to;

receive data associated with the first individual'"'"'s performance in the first athletic event; and

generate a video game of an athletic event in an animated form wherein the first individual is represented by an avatar and a movement of the avatar on the display is based on a performance of the first individual during the first athletic event, and wherein the video game is based on a competition between the first individual during the first athletic event and the first individual during a second athletic event.

8. The athletic training system of claim 7, wherein generating the video game includes:

generating a video image of the first individual in a user-selectable manner such that, when the video game is generated, the video image of the first individual is user-selectable within the video game; and

generating a recommendation for improving one or more athletic performance statistics of the first individual based on the data associated with the athletic event.

9. The athletic training system of claim 8, wherein the display engine is further configured to generate the recommendation for improving the one or more athletic performance statistics by identifying an athletic performance area of the first individual that needs improvement.

10. The athletic training system of claim 9, wherein identifying the athletic performance area needing improvement is performed based on a comparison to a specified threshold performance.

11. The athletic training system of claim 8, wherein the display engine is further configured to provide the recommendation through a virtual coach.

12. The athletic training system of claim 8, wherein the one or more athletic performance statistics includes a first pass completion rate with a second athlete and wherein the recommendation includes a suggestion to pass to a third athlete with which the athlete has a second pass completion rate greater than the first pass completion rate.

13. The athletic training system of claim 8, wherein the recommendation includes a training exercise.

14. The athletic training system of claim 13, wherein the recommendation further includes an equipment recommendation.

15. The athletic training system of claim 14, wherein the data associated with the athletic event indicates that the first individual is losing traction and wherein the equipment recommendation includes a recommendation for footwear.

16. The athletic training system of claim 8, wherein the recommendation includes instructional commentary.

17. The athletic training system of claim 8, wherein the recommendation is provided during a virtual replay of the athletic event.
