Abstract

A mobile device and a touch-based operation method allow a user to easily and conveniently use a desired communication-related function through a touch-sensitive interface. The mobile device displays a scrollable communication-related list that includes but is not limited to a call log list, a message list, a phonebook list, and an email list. When a specific item is selected in response to a first touch event, the mobile device determines whether or not a second touch event occurs on the selected item in a non-scrollable direction. Then the mobile device executes a particular function predefined in the selected item in response to the second touch event occurring in the non-scrollable direction.

Claims

1. An apparatus comprising:

memory to store a specified application;

communication circuitry;

a touchscreen display; and

a processor adapted to;

execute the specified application, the executing including displaying, in a user interface corresponding to the specified application and displayed on the touchscreen display, an item including an identification corresponding to a message sent to or received from an external electronic device via the communication circuitry;

display a first object indicative of a first specified function concurrently with at least one part of the item in the user interface in response to the item being moved in a first direction according to a first input received with respect to the item;

display a second object indicative of a second specified function concurrently with at least another part of the item in the user interface in response to the item being moved in a second direction according to a second input received with respect to the item; and

execute the first specified function or the second specified function based at least in part on a determination that movement of the item in a corresponding direction of the first direction and the second direction meets a specified condition.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the processor is adapted to:

execute an email application as at least part of the specified application.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the processor is adapted to:

display the item as at least part of a list that is vertically scrollable and includes a plurality of items sequentially arranged.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the processor is adapted to:

display, as at least part of the identification, a name of a sender corresponding to the message.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the processor is adapted to:

maintain a location of the first object in the user interface while the item is being moved in the first direction according to the first input.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the processor is adapted to:

display, as at least part of a corresponding object of the first object and the second object, an icon related to a corresponding specified function of the first specified function and the second specified function.

7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the processor is adapted to:

perform the displaying of the item such that the at least part of the item is displayed using a first visual effect; and

perform the displaying of the first object such that the at least one part of the item is displayed using a second visual effect different from the first visual effect.

8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the processor is adapted to:

remove the second visual effect based at least in part on a third input to scroll vertically.

9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the processor is adapted to:

perform the executing of the first specified function or the second specified function based at least in part on a determination that a location of a corresponding input of the first input and the second input is met as at least part of the specified condition.

10. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the processor is adapted to:

perform the executing of the first specified function or the second specified function based at least in part on a determination that a distance of a corresponding input of the first input and the second input is met as at least part of the specified condition.

11. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the processor is adapted to:

delete the item from the touchscreen display based at least in part on the executing of a corresponding specified function of the first specified function and the second specified function.

12. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the processor is adapted to:

as at least part of a corresponding specified function of the first specified function and the second specified function, change at least one visual effect for a corresponding part of the at least one part and the at least another part of the item.

13. An apparatus comprising:

memory to store a specified application;

communication circuitry; and

a processor adapted to;

execute the specified application, the executing including displaying, in a user interface corresponding to the specified application, an item including an identification corresponding to a message sent to or received from an external electronic device via the communication circuitry;

display a first object indicative of a first specified function concurrently with at least one part of the item in the user interface in response to the item being moved in a first direction according to a first input received with respect to the item; and

display a second object indicative of a second specified function concurrently with at least another part of the item in the user interface in response to the item being moved in a second direction according to a second input received with respect to the item.

14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the processor is adapted to:

display, as at least part of a corresponding object of the first object and the second object, an icon and text related to a corresponding specified function of the first specified function and the second specified function.

15. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the processor is adapted to:

perform the displaying of the item such that the at least part of the item is displayed using a first visual effect; and

perform the displaying of the first object such that the at least one part of the item is displayed using a second visual effect different from the first visual effect.

16. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the processor is adapted to:

remove the second visual effect based at least in part on a third input to scroll vertically.

17. A non-transitory machine-readable storage device storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

executing, at an electronic device, a specified application, the executing including displaying, in a user interface corresponding to the specified application, an item including an identification corresponding to a message sent to or received from an external electronic device;

displaying a first object indicative of a first specified function concurrently with at least one part of the item in the user interface in response to the item being moved in a first direction according to a first input received with respect to the item; and

displaying a second object indicative of a second specified function concurrently with at least another part of the item in the user interface in response to the item being moved in a second direction according to a second input received with respect to the item.

18. The non-transitory machine-readable storage device of claim 17, wherein the displaying of the first object comprises:

performing the displaying of the item such that the at least part of the item is displayed using a first visual effect; and

performing the displaying of the first object such that the at least one part of the item is displayed using a second visual effect different from the first visual effect.

19. The non-transitory machine-readable storage device of claim 18, wherein the displaying of the first object comprises:

removing the second visual effect based at least in part on a third input to scroll the item vertically.

20. The non-transitory machine-readable storage device of claim 18, wherein the displaying of the first object comprises:

changing, as at least part of the second visual effect, a color of a background for the at least one part of the item.
