Abstract

A system and method for gas exposure monitoring of a work area are described. The system may include components that receive an alarm data item from a sensor device. The alarm data item may be generated in response to a first user being exposed to a gas concentration measured by the sensor device. A processor may receive a location of the sensor device in the work area based on a location identifier of the sensor device. A second user located within a predetermined vicinity of the sensor device may be identified. The second user may be identified by the processor. The system may transmit an indication of the alarm data item received from the first user and the location of the sensor device in the work area to the second user. The transmission may be automatic on detection of the second user'"'"'s location.

Claims

1. A method for providing real time locating and gas exposure monitoring, the method comprising:

receiving, by an interface, an alarm data item from a mobile sensor device worn by a first user in a work area, the alarm data associated with the first user being exposed to a gas concentration measured by the mobile sensor device;

identifying, by a processor, a location of the first user in the work area based on a location identifier of the mobile sensor device;

identifying, by the processor, a second user located within a predetermined proximity of the location of the first user; and

transmitting, by the interface, for receipt by a communication device of the second user, an indication of the alarm data item received from the first user and the location of the first user in the work area.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the alarm data item is received in response to the mobile sensor device worn by the first user remaining motionless for a predetermined time interval.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the alarm data item is received in response to the mobile sensor device detecting the first user being exposed to gas concentration beyond a predetermined threshold.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the alarm data item is received in response to activation of a panic button of the mobile sensor device.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving, by the interface, the gas concentration measured by the mobile sensor device.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising transmitting the amount of gas concentration measured by the mobile sensor device to the communication device of the second user.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving, from the communication device of the second user, an indication of whether an emergency responder should be contacted.

8. The method of claim 7, further comprising initiating a communication with a communication device of the emergency responder in response to the indication that the emergency responder should be contacted, otherwise closing the alarm data item.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

displaying, on a display device, the gas concentration measured by the mobile sensor device; and

prompting, on the display, for an operator to determine whether to transmit the indication of the alarm data item to the communication device of the second user.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the communication device of the second user is a second mobile sensor device associated with the second user.

11. A gas detection and locating device, comprising:

a gas detector for monitoring an amount of a gas within a proximity of the gas detector, wherein the gas detector generates a gas data item corresponding to the amount of the gas;

a location device operatively connected to the gas detector, wherein the location device generates a location data item for deriving a location of the location device; and

an interface operatively connected to the gas detector and the location device, the interface for wirelessly communicating with a remote server, wherein the interface communicates the gas data item and the location data item to the remote server when the amount of the gas satisfies a predetermined criteria or the location device remains motionless for a predetermined time interval.

12. The gas detection and locating device of claim 11 further comprising

a panic button operatively connected to the interface, wherein the interface communicates the gas data item and the location data item to the remote server when the panic button is pressed.

13. The gas detection and locating device of claim 12 further comprising an alert module for providing a local alert when the amount of the gas present satisfies the predetermined criteria, the panic button is pressed, or the location device remains motionless for the time interval.

14. The gas detection and locating device of claim 13 wherein the local alert comprises at least one of a vibrating alert, an audible alert, or a visible alert.

15. The gas detection and locating device of claim 11 wherein the gas detector and location device are operatively connected via a wired connection or integrated into a single mobile device.

16. The gas detection and locating device of claim 11 wherein the gas detector and location device are operatively connected via a wireless connection.

17. The gas detection and locating device of claim 16 wherein the wireless connection comprises a Bluetooth connection.

18. The gas detection and locating device of claim 11 wherein the amount of the gas present satisfies the predetermined criteria when the amount of the gas exceeds a threshold.

The gas detection and locating device of claim 11 further comprising a biometric sensor operatively connected to the interface, for sensing a biometric stimulus and generating a biometric data item corresponding to the biometric stimulus, wherein the interface communicates the biometric data item in addition to the gas data item, and the location data item to the remote server when the amount of the gas satisfies the predetermined criteria or the location device remains motionless for the predetermined time interval.

The gas detection and locating device of claim 11 wherein the interface communicates the gas data item and the location data item to the remote server over a network, the network comprising of a plurality of network components, wherein at least one network component is utilized for deriving the location of the location device from the location data item.
