Abstract

A method for use in a dispersed storage network includes receiving location data corresponding to a location of a client computing device; determining, based on the location data, that the client computing device is at a location outside a home area of the client computing device; and transferring pre-fetch slices associated with the client computing device from a first plurality of dispersed storage units associated with the home area of the client computing device for storage in a second plurality of dispersed storage units associated with the location of the client computing device.

Claims

1. A method for execution by a computing device of a dispersed storage network (DSN) that includes a processor, the method comprises:

receiving location data corresponding to a location of a client computing device;

determining, based on the location data, that the client computing device is at a location outside a home area of the client computing device; and

transferring pre-fetch slices associated with the client computing device from a first plurality of dispersed storage units associated with the home area of the client computing device for storage in a second plurality of dispersed storage units associated with the location of the client computing device.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the client computing device is a mobile device, and wherein the location data indicates one of:

a current location of the mobile device or a future location of the mobile device.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining the pre-fetch slices based on an access history associated with the client computing device.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the pre-fetch slices contain a read threshold number of slices of pre-fetch data.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the pre-fetch data includes at least one of:

index data associated with the client computing device, content in a home directory associated with the client computing device, or data associated with at least one frequently used application of the client computing device.

6. The method of claim 4, wherein the pre-fetch data includes all data associated with a vault of the DSN associated with the client computing device.

7. The method of claim 4, wherein transferring the pre-fetch slices includes:

retrieving the pre-fetch slices from the first plurality of dispersed storage units;

sending the pre-fetch slices to the second plurality of dispersed storage units for storage;

verifying an integrity of the storage of the pre-fetch slices; and

deleting the pre-fetch slices from the first plurality of dispersed storage units, in response to verifying the integrity of the storage of the pre-fetch slices.

8. A processing system of a dispersed storage network comprises:

at least one processor;

a memory that stores operational instructions, that when executed by the at least one processor cause the processing system to;

at least one memory section that stores operational instructions that, when executed by a processing system of a dispersed storage network (DSN) that includes a processor and a memory, causes the processing system to;

receive location data corresponding to a location of a client computing device;

determine, based on the location data, that the client computing device is at a location outside a home area of the client computing device; and

transfer pre-fetch slices associated with the client computing device from a first plurality of dispersed storage units associated with the home area of the client computing device for storage in a second plurality of dispersed storage units associated with the location of the client computing device.

9. The processing system of claim 8, wherein the client computing device is a mobile device, and wherein the location data indicates one of:

a current location of the mobile device or a future location of the mobile device.

10. The processing system of claim 8, wherein the operational instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, further cause the processing system to:

determine the pre-fetch slices based on an access history associated with the client computing device.

11. The processing system of claim 8, wherein the pre-fetch slices contain a read threshold number of slices of pre-fetch data.

12. The processing system of claim 11, wherein the pre-fetch data includes at least one of:

index data associated with the client computing device, content in a home directory associated with the client computing device, or data associated with at least one frequently used application of the client computing device.

13. The processing system of claim 11, wherein the pre-fetch data includes all data associated with a vault of the DSN associated with the client computing device.

14. The processing system of claim 11, wherein transferring the pre-fetch slices includes:

retrieving the pre-fetch slices from the first plurality of dispersed storage units;

sending the pre-fetch slices to the second plurality of dispersed storage units for storage;

verifying an integrity of the storage of the pre-fetch slices; and

deleting the pre-fetch slices from the first plurality of dispersed storage units, in response to verifying the integrity of the storage of the pre-fetch slices.

15. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprises:

at least one memory section that stores operational instructions that, when executed by a processing system of a dispersed storage network (DSN) that includes a processor and a memory, causes the processing system to;

receive location data corresponding to a location of a client computing device;

determine, based on the location data, that the client computing device is at a location outside a home area of the client computing device; and

transfer pre-fetch slices associated with the client computing device from a first plurality of dispersed storage units associated with the home area of the client computing device for storage in a second plurality of dispersed storage units associated with the location of the client computing device.

16. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein the client computing device is a mobile device, and wherein the location data indicates one of:

a current location of the mobile device or a future location of the mobile device.

17. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein the operational instructions, when executed by the processor, further cause the processing system to:

determine the pre-fetch slices based on an access history associated with the client computing device.

18. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein the pre-fetch slices contain a read threshold number of slices of pre-fetch data.

19. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 18, wherein the pre-fetch data includes at least one of:

index data associated with the client computing device, content in a home directory associated with the client computing device, or data associated with at least one frequently used application of the client computing device.

20. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 18, wherein the pre-fetch data includes all data associated with a vault of the DSN associated with the client computing device.
