Abstract

Disclosed are database systems, methods, systems, and computer program products for providing tabular data in a social network feed. In some implementations, a server of a database system stores, in a database, social network feed data comprising a plurality of feed items as data objects. The server also stores, in a database, tabular data as data objects. The server shares the social network feed data and the tabular data in a social network feed displayable to present the feed items and the tabular data in a user interface, the tabular data being presentable in the user interface in a tabular format. The user interface may receive shareable user commentary regarding the tabular data. The stored tabular data may be editable by users of the database system. The social network feed may be updated to comprise notifications of edits to the tabular data.

21. A database system for providing files in a conversation in a feed of a social networking system in association with the database system, the database system configurable to cause:

processing one or more requests from a first user of the social networking system to share a file with at least a first one of a plurality of groups of users of the social networking system, at least one of the requests being capable of indicating a selection of the first group by the first user;

updating, responsive to processing a first one of the at least one of the requests capable of indicating a selection of the first group, the database system to cause the file to be editable by one or more of the users who are members of the first group;

providing data to a device of a second user of the social networking system, the device being operable to process the data to display, in a user interface on a display of the device, a first feed, the second user being a member of the first group, the displayed first feed comprising;

a plurality of messages, and a representation of the file, the representation of the file being displayed in association with a selection operable to cause the file to be displayed in an editable format on the display of the device of the second user, the user interface capable of receiving user commentary from users regarding the file, the user commentary being shareable in the first feed as a message;

processing an edit to the file to provide an updated file, the edit submitted by the second user;

updating, responsive to processing the edit, the first feed such that the updated file is accessible to online users of the first group in respective feeds of the online users of the first group.

22. The database system of claim 21, the database system further configurable to cause:

providing a further selection in association with the representation of the file, the further selection allowing users of the social networking system to discuss the file.

23. The database system of claim 21, the database system further configurable to cause:

providing a further selection in association with the representation of the file, the further selection allowing users of the social networking system to add content related to the file to the first feed.

24. The database system of claim 21, the database system further configurable to cause:

processing a further request from a third user of the social networking system to follow the file; and

causing, responsive to processing the further request, the third user to follow the file, the following of the file causing the third user to receive updates when the file is modified.

25. The database system of claim 21, wherein the updated file is an edited version of the file.

26. The database system of claim 21, wherein processing the edit and updating the first feed occur in near-real time.

27. The database system of claim 21, wherein the file is one of:

an Excel file, a Word file, or a PowerPoint file.

28. A computer program product comprising a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer-readable program code to be executed by one or more processors when retrieved from the non-transitory computer-readable medium, the program code including instructions configurable to cause:

processing one or more requests from a first user of a social networking system to share a file with at least a first one of a plurality of groups of users of the social networking system, at least one of the requests being capable of indicating a selection of the first group by the first user;

updating, responsive to processing a first one of the at least one of the requests capable of indicating a selection of the first group, a database system to cause the file to be editable by one or more of the users who are members of the first group;

providing data to a device of a second user of the social networking system, the device being operable to process the data to display, in a user interface on a display of the device, a first feed, the second user being a member of the first group, the displayed first feed comprising;

a plurality of messages, and a representation of the file, the representation of the file being displayed in association with a selection operable to cause the file to be displayed in an editable format on the display of the device of the second user, the user interface capable of receiving user commentary from users regarding the file, the user commentary being shareable in the first feed as a message;

processing an edit to the file to provide an updated file, the edit submitted by the second user;

updating, responsive to processing the edit, the first feed such that the updated file is accessible to online users of the first group in respective feeds of the online users of the first group.

29. The computer program product of claim 28, the instructions further configurable to cause:

providing a further selection in association with the representation of the file, the further selection allowing users of the social networking system to discuss the file.

30. The computer program product of claim 28, the instructions further configurable to cause:

providing a further selection in association with the representation of the file, the further selection allowing users of the social networking system to add content related to the file to the first feed.

31. The computer program product of claim 28, the instructions further configurable to cause:

processing a further request from a third user of the social networking system to follow the file; and

causing, responsive to processing the further request, the third user to follow the file, the following of the file causing the third user to receive updates when the file is modified.

32. The computer program product of claim 28, wherein the updated file is an edited version of the file.

33. The computer program product of claim 28, wherein processing the edit and updating the first feed occur in near-real time.

34. The computer program product of claim 28, wherein the file is one of:

an Excel file, a Word file, or a PowerPoint file.

35. A method comprising:

processing one or more requests from a first user of a social networking system to share a file with at least a first one of a plurality of groups of users of the social networking system, at least one of the requests being capable of indicating a selection of the first group by the first user;

updating, responsive to processing a first one of the at least one of the requests capable of indicating a selection of the first group, a database system to cause the file to be editable by one or more of the users who are members of the first group;

providing data to a device of a second user of the social networking system, the device being operable to process the data to display, in a user interface on a display of the device, a first feed, the second user being a member of the first group, the displayed first feed comprising;

a plurality of messages, and a representation of the file, the representation of the file being displayed in association with a selection operable to cause the file to be displayed in an editable format on the display of the device of the second user, the user interface capable of receiving user commentary from users regarding the file, the user commentary being shareable in the first feed as a message;

processing an edit to the file to provide an updated file, the edit submitted by the second user;

updating, responsive to processing the edit, the first feed such that the updated file is accessible to online users of the first group in respective feeds of the online users of the first group.

36. The method of claim 35, the method further comprising:

providing a further selection in association with the representation of the file, the further selection allowing users of the social networking system to discuss the file.

37. The method of claim 35, the method further comprising:

providing a further selection in association with the representation of the file, the further selection allowing users of the social networking system to add content related to the file to the first feed.

38. The method of claim 35, the method further comprising:

processing a further request from a third user of the social networking system to follow the file; and

causing, responsive to processing the further request, the third user to follow the file, the following of the file causing the third user to receive updates when the file is modified.

39. The method of claim 35, wherein the updated file is an edited version of the file.

40. The method of claim 35, wherein the file is one of:

an Excel file, a Word file, or a PowerPoint file.
