Abstract

Various embodiments for managing migration between server systems are presented. Indications of a plurality of migration scripts to be executed during a migration of a database system from a source server system to a target server system may be received. An execution order for the plurality of migration scripts may be determined based upon characteristics of a plurality of database objects to be migrated using the plurality of migration scripts and characteristics of the plurality of migration scripts. Execution of a first migration script of the plurality of migration scripts may be initiated according to the determined execution order. The first migration script may cause copying of a database object of the plurality of database objects from the source server system to the target server system.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving one or more indications of a plurality of migration scripts to be executed to perform a migration of a database system from a source server system to a target server system;

determining, based on one or more factors, an execution order in which the plurality of migration scripts are to be initialized for execution;

identifying one or more first migration scripts of the plurality of migration scripts based on the execution order;

initiating execution of the one or more first migration scripts to commence the migration of the database system;

dynamically modifying the execution order during the migration of the database system to generate a modified execution order;

identifying one or more second migration scripts of the plurality of migrations scripts based on the modified execution order; and

initiating execution of the one or more second migration scripts to continue the migration of the database system.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the one or more factors includes dependencies of the plurality of migration scripts.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the dependencies specify that a copy script be performed before at least one of a migration index generation script and a migration verification script.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein initiating execution of the one or more first migration scripts includes executing at least one first migration script by the target server system and the source server system in parallel.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the at least one first migration script executed in parallel is determined by at least one user-defined attribute.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein initiating execution of the one or more first migration scripts includes:

monitoring an amount of available resources at the target server system, wherein the execution order is dynamically modified based on the amount of available resources at the target server system.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the amount of available resources includes at least one of an amount of processing resources and a communication bandwidth between the target server system and the source server system.

8. The method of claim 6, wherein initiating execution of the one or more first migration scripts includes:

monitoring an amount of available resources at the source server system, wherein the execution order is dynamically modified based on the amount of available resources at the source server system.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the amount of available resources at the target server system is greater than the amount of available resources at the source server system.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein initiating execution of the one or more first migration scripts includes:

estimating a plurality of time durations which will be needed to perform the plurality of migration scripts, wherein the execution order is dynamically modified based on the plurality of time durations.
