Abstract

Methods and apparatuses for determining an analyte value are disclosed.

Claims

1. A glucose monitoring system, comprising:

an in vivo glucose sensor that generates signals corresponding to a monitored glucose level; and

a data processing unit that determines noise filtered glucose data based on noise filtered estimates of glucose data generated from the signals corresponding to the monitored glucose level, and that compensates for a signal condition in the noise filtered glucose data, wherein the data processing unit determines a fast rate estimate and a slow rate estimate based on the noise filtered estimates of the glucose data to identify the signal condition in the noise filtered glucose data, the data processing unit further including an output unit to output glucose level information associated with the noise filtered glucose data, the output unit including a display to display the glucose level information associated with the noise filtered glucose data.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the data processing unit is configured to compensate for the signal condition in the noise filtered glucose data to increase accuracy of the generated glucose data.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the data processing unit is configured to compensate for the signal condition using a momentum-based estimate based on the slow rate estimate and a previous momentum-based estimate.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the fast rate estimate is determined by at least extracting the fast rate estimate from a difference signal by performing high pass filtering.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the slow rate estimate is determined by at least taking a difference between a simple difference signal and a fast difference signal.

The system of claim 1, wherein the data processing unit further determines that a negative spike correlating to a signal dropout state is present in the fast rate estimate, and in response to determining the negative spike is present, monitors the noise filtered glucose data for a predetermined allowable time period.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the in vivo glucose sensor comprises a plurality of electrodes including a working electrode comprising a glucose-responsive enzyme bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode.

8. The system of claim 7, wherein the glucose-responsive enzyme is chemically bonded to the polymer disposed on the working electrode.

9. The system of claim 7, wherein the working electrode comprises a mediator bonded to the polymer disposed on the working electrode.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the mediator is crosslinked with the polymer disposed on the working electrode.

11. An apparatus, comprising:

a wireless communication unit to receive signals corresponding to a monitored glucose level generated by an in vivo glucose sensor;

a data processing unit that determines noise filtered glucose data based on noise filtered estimates of glucose data generated from the signals corresponding to the monitored glucose level, and that compensates for a signal condition in the noise filtered glucose data, wherein the data processing unit determines a fast rate estimate and a slow rate estimate based on the noise filtered estimates of the glucose data to identify the signal condition in the noise filtered glucose data; and

an output unit to output glucose level information associated with the noise filtered glucose data, the output unit including a display to display the glucose level information associated with the noise filtered glucose data.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the data processing unit is configured to compensate for the signal condition in the noise filtered glucose data to increase accuracy of the generated glucose data.

13. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the data processing unit is configured to compensate for the signal condition using a momentum-based estimate based on the slow rate estimate and a previous momentum-based estimate.

14. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the fast rate estimate is determined by at least extracting the fast rate estimate from a difference signal by performing high pass filtering.

15. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the slow rate estimate is determined by at least taking a difference between a simple difference signal and a fast difference signal.

The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the data processing unit further determines that a negative spike correlating to a signal dropout state is present in the fast rate estimate, and in response to determining the negative spike is present, monitors the noise filtered glucose data for a predetermined allowable time period.

17. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the in vivo glucose sensor comprises a plurality of electrodes including a working electrode comprising a glucose-responsive enzyme bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode.

18. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the glucose-responsive enzyme is chemically bonded to the polymer disposed on the working electrode.

19. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the working electrode comprises a mediator bonded to the polymer disposed on the working electrode.

20. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the mediator is crosslinked with the polymer disposed on the working electrode.
