Abstract

Combined methods for treating a patient using time-varying magnetic field are described. The treatment methods combine various approaches for aesthetic treatment. The methods are focused on enhancing a visual appearance of the patient.

Claims

1. A device for generating a time-varying magnetic field and causing a muscle of a patient to contract, comprising:

a magnetic field generating coil configured to generate a time-varying magnetic field;

a first applicator comprising the magnetic field generating coil, wherein the first applicator is configured to be placed in contact with a patient'"'"'s skin or clothing at a body region of the patient, and wherein the body region comprises an abdomen or a buttock; and

a belt configured to position the first applicator in contact with the patient'"'"'s skin or clothing at the body region;

wherein the device is configured such that the time-varying magnetic field generated by the magnetic field generating coil comprises a magnetic flux density of 0.5 Tesla to 7 Tesla at a surface of the magnetic field generating coil and a maximal value of a magnetic flux density derivative in a range of 300 T/s to 800 kT/s,

wherein the device is configured such that the time-varying magnetic field is applied by the first applicator to muscle fibers, neuromuscular plates, or nerves innervating muscle fibers in the body region to cause a supramaximal contraction of the patient'"'"'s muscle in the body region, and

wherein the device is configured to apply magnetic pulses with a repetition rate in a range of 1 Hz to 300 Hz in at least two trains, each train causing a supramaximal contraction of the patient'"'"'s muscle, wherein each train lasts between 1 second and 30 seconds, and wherein a time between two subsequent trains lasts between 1 second and 30 seconds.

The device of claim 1, further comprising a second applicator comprising a second magnetic field generating coil configured to generate a time-varying magnetic field when energy is provided to the second magnetic field generating coil, wherein the second applicator is configured to be placed in contact with the patient'"'"'s skin or clothing at the body region.

3. The device of claim 2, wherein when energy is provided to the magnetic field generating coil and the second magnetic field generating coil, the magnetic field generating coil and the second magnetic field generating coil simultaneously generate time-varying magnetic fields.

4. The device of claim 2, wherein the first applicator and the second applicator are placed laterally on the patient when applying the time-varying magnetic fields.

5. The device of claim 1, wherein the device is configured to generate a pulse comprising two impulses of the time-varying magnetic field.

6. The device of claim 1, wherein the first applicator comprises a marker positioned at a center of the magnetic field generating coil.

7. The device of claim 1, wherein the first applicator further comprises an optical waves generating device configured to generate optical waves having a wavelength in a range of 400 nm to 600 nm.

8. The device of claim 1, wherein the first applicator comprises a concavity.

9. The device of claim 8, further comprising an optical waves generating device configured to generate optical waves.

10. A treatment device for generating a time-varying magnetic field and causing a muscle of a patient to contract, comprising:

a switching device;

an energy storage device, and

a magnetic field generating coil having a winding area with a winding in a range of 60% to 90% of a total magnetic field generating coil surface, such that the treatment device is configured to generate a time-varying magnetic field with a magnetic fluence in a range of 50 T·

cm² to 1,500 T·

cm², wherein the switching device is configured to discharge energy from the energy storage device to the magnetic field generating coil so as to generate the time-varying magnetic field;

an applicator comprising the magnetic field generating coil, wherein the applicator is configured to be placed in contact with a patient'"'"'s skin or clothing at a body region,

wherein the applicator is configured to apply the time-varying magnetic field to the body region of the patient so as to cause a contraction of a muscle in the body region, and wherein the body region is a thigh, a buttock, or an abdomen; and

an adjustable flexible belt configured to couple the applicator to the patient'"'"'s skin or clothing at the body region.

11. The treatment device of claim 10, wherein the applicator is configured to be placed laterally on the body region of the patient.

12. The treatment device of claim 10, wherein the applicator comprises a concavity.

13. The treatment device of claim 10, wherein the applicator further comprises an optical waves generating device.

14. The treatment device of claim 10, wherein the magnetic field generating coil has an inductance in a range of 1 nH to 50 mH.

15. The treatment device of claim 10, wherein the treatment device is configured to apply a first train and a second train to the body region of the patient, wherein the first train is configured to cause the contraction of the muscle.

16. A device generating a time-varying magnetic field and causing a muscle of a patient to contract, comprising:

a first magnetic field generating coil configured to generate a first time-varying magnetic field;

a second magnetic field generating coil configured to generate a second time-varying magnetic field, wherein the first and second magnetic field generating coils are configured to be placed proximate a patient'"'"'s skin or clothing at a body region, wherein the body region comprises a buttock or an abdomen, wherein the first and second magnetic field generating coils are configured to apply the first and second time-varying magnetic fields to the body region so as to cause a contraction of a muscle selected from the group consisting of a rectus abdominis, external oblique, internal oblique, transversus abdominis, gluteus maximum, gluteus medius, and gluteus minimus; and

a means for repetitively providing a current to the first and second magnetic field generating coils simultaneously such that the first and second magnetic field generating coils generate the first and second time-varying magnetic fields each having a magnetic flux density in a range of 0.5 Tesla to 7 Tesla at surfaces of the first and second magnetic field generating coils, and a magnetic fluence in a range of 50 T·

cm² to 60,000 T·

cm².

17. The device of claim 16, wherein the device is configured to apply the time-varying magnetic fields in respective bursts, each including a train of pulses to muscle fibers, neuromuscular plates, or nerves innervating muscle fibers in the body region such that the muscles of the body region contract.

18. The device of claim 16, wherein the device is configured to simultaneously apply the first and second time-varying magnetic fields to two different areas of the body region so as to cause a contraction of the two different areas.

19. The device of claim 16, wherein the first magnetic field generating coil and the second magnetic field generating coil are configured to be positioned in mutually tilted planes defined by an angle at the body region.

20. The device of claim 16, wherein the first and second magnetic field generating coils each have an inductance in a range of 1 nH to 50 mH.

21. The device of claim 16, wherein a winding core area with a winding is in a range of 60% to 90% of a total magnetic field generating coil surface of at least one of the first or second magnetic field generating coil.

22. A treatment device for generating a time-varying magnetic field and causing a muscle of a patient to contract, comprising:

a switching device;

an energy storage device;

a magnetic field generating coil configured to generate a time-varying magnetic field, wherein the magnetic field generating coil has an inner radius in a range of 7% to 40% of an outer diameter of the magnetic field generating coil; and

an applicator comprising the magnetic field generating coil, wherein the applicator is configured to be placed in contact with a patient'"'"'s skin or clothing at a body region of the patient, wherein the applicator is configured to apply the time-varying magnetic field to the body region of a buttock of the patient;

wherein the energy storage device is configured to discharge energy to the magnetic field generating coil when the switching device is switched, such that the magnetic field generating coil generates the time-varying magnetic field having a magnetic flux density of 0.5 Tesla to 7 Tesla at a surface of the magnetic field generating coil, wherein the magnetic flux density is sufficient to cause a tetanus contraction of the patient'"'"'s muscle or a nerve innervating the patient'"'"'s muscle in order to cause a repetitive tetanus contraction of the patient'"'"'s muscle including at least one of a gluteus maximum, a gluteus medius, or a gluteus minimus, and a maximal value of a magnetic flux density derivative is in a range of 300 T/s to 800 kT/s.

23. The treatment device of claim 22, wherein the energy storage device has a capacitance in a range of 5 nF to 100 mF.

24. The treatment device of claim 22, wherein the treatment device is configured to apply the time-varying magnetic field to the patient'"'"'s muscle or the nerve innervating the patient'"'"'s muscle for a first time period in which at least two pulses of the time-varying magnetic field are applied to the body region of the patient followed by a second time period in which no time-varying magnetic field is applied.

25. The treatment device of claim 22, further comprising an adjustable flexible belt configured to couple the applicator to the patient.

26. The treatment device of claim 22, wherein the device is configured to generate the time-varying magnetic field having a magnetic fluence in a range of 60 T·

cm² to 60,000 T·

cm².

The treatment device of claim 22, further comprising a second applicator comprising a second magnetic field generating coil configured to generate a second time-varying magnetic field, wherein the second magnetic field generating coil has an inner radius in a range of 7% to 40% of an outer diameter of the second magnetic field generating coil.

28. The treatment device of claim 27, wherein the device including the magnetic field generating coil and the second magnetic field generating coil is configured to simultaneously generate the time-varying magnetic fields.

29. The treatment device of claim 22, wherein the applicator comprises a handle configured to enable movable positioning of the applicator with respect to the patient.

30. The treatment device of claim 22, wherein the applicator further comprises an optical waves generating device configured to generate optical waves having a wavelength in a range of 400 nm to 600 nm.
