Abstract

Methods and apparatus are provided for communication among display devices and sensor electronics unit in an analyte monitoring system. The analyte monitoring system may include a sensor that is configured to perform measurements indicative of analyte levels. The sensor may be communicatively coupled to the sensor electronics unit. The sensor electronics unit may be configured to transmit data indicative of analyte levels to the display devices using one or more communication protocols. Furthermore, the sensor electronics unit may be configured to operate in multiple modes, and switch between the modes in response to commands received from the display devices. Related systems, methods, and articles of manufacture are also described.

Claims

1. A display device for communicating with a sensor electronics unit of an analyte monitoring system, the display device comprising:

a display;

a first communicator configured to implement a first communication protocol having a first range;

a second communicator configured to implement a second communication protocol having a second range greater than the first range;

a graphical user interface configured to (1) display sensor information received from the sensor electronics unit, and (2) control operation of the first communicator and the second communicator, the graphical user interface configured to receive a user selection of one or more commands that the display can issue to the sensor electronics unit using the first communication protocol;

wherein the first communicator is configured to request and receive sensor information from the sensor electronics unit using the first communication protocol when the user selects a retrieve data command; and

wherein the second communicator is configured to automatically receive sensor information from the sensor electronics unit using the second communication protocol.

2. The display device of claim 1, wherein the first communicator is configured to wake up the sensor electronics unit from a low power mode using the first communication protocol when the user selects a wake command.

3. The display device of claim 1, wherein the first communication protocol is NFC, and the second communication protocol is Bluetooth.

4. The display device of claim 1, wherein the display comprises a touchscreen.

5. The display device of claim 4, wherein the display device is a mobile phone.

6. The display device of claim 4, wherein the display device is a specialized medical receiver.
