A METHOD OF SEPARATING PARA-XYLENE AND ORTHOXYLENE EACH IN REFINED FORM FROM A CRUDE MIXTURE OF THE XYLENE ISOMERS, ETHYLBENZENE AND PARAFFINS BOILING SUBSTANTIALLY WITHIN THE BOILING TEMPERATURE RANGE OF THE XYLENE ISOMERS, THE SAID METHOD COMPRISING COOLING THE CURDE MIXTURE TO A TEMPERATURE THAT IS JUST ABOVE THE SPONTANEOUS CRYSTALLIZATION TEMPERATURE OF THE FIRST SATURATED COMPONENT OF THE MIXTURE OTHER THAN PARA-XYLENE AND ORTHO-XYLENE TO EFFECT CRYSTALLIZATION OF PARA-XYLENE AND OTHRO-XYLENE, SEPARATING SO-OBTAINED PARA-AND ORTHOXYLENE CRYSTALS FROM RESULTANT MOTHER LIQUOR , RECOVERING SUBSTANTIALLY PURE PARA-XYLENE AS A PRODUCT FORM THE PARAAND OTHRO-XYLENE CYRSTALS BY A SECOND CRYSTALLIZATION, FRACTIONALLY DISTILLING THE MOTHER LIQUOR FROM THE SECOND CRYSTALLIZATION SO AS TO RECOVER A PARA-XYLENE RICH DISTILLATE AND A SUBSTANTIALLY PURE OTHRO-XYLENE BUTTONS PRODUCT AND RECYCLING THE PARA-XYLENE-RICH DISTILLATE TO THE SECOND CYRSTALLIZATION.
