1. Position sensing apparatus comprising:

  • a stationary main electrode;

    a stationary first electrode spaced from said main electrode;

    a stationary second electrode spaced from said main and first electrodes;

    a movable electrode positionable proximate to and capacitively coupleable with said main and first electrodes or said main and second electrodes;

    processing means connected to said main electrode responsive to a capacitively induced signal in said main electrode to provide a processed signal; and

    processor means operatively connected to said stationary electrodes and to said processing means including signalling means for providing first or second input signals respectively to said first or second electrodes whereby a signal is capacitively induced in said main electrode when said movable electrode is respectively proximate said first or second electrode;

    said processor means including control means for causing said signalling means to provide said first input signal and sensing the presence of said processed signal corresponding to said first input signal to provide an indication that said movable electrode is proximate said first electrode and causing said signalling means to provide said second signal and sensing the presence of said processed signal corresponding to said second input signal to provide an indication that said movable electrode is proximate said second electrode.
