A polyamide, alcohol soluble at room temperature, prepared by the condensation of an acid component comprising(A) dimerized fatty acids having from 16 to 44 carbon atoms with(B1) at least one aliphatic linear monocarboxylic acid having 3 to 6 carbon atoms, and(B2) at least one aliphatic branched monocarboxylic acid having 4 to 9 carbon atoms, the equivalence ratio between components (A) and (B) ranging from 0.73:
