A bioelectric electrode assembly comprising an electrode piece and an ionically conductive contact electrolyte layer as a coating on said electrode piece,said electrode piece comprising an electrically conductive material selected from the group consisting of electrically conductive carbon black, electrically conductive graphite, and mixtures thereof, and triiodomethane blended therewith,said ionically conductive contact electrolyte layer being in electrically conductive contact with said electrode piece an adapted for placing onto the skin to establish electrically conductive contact therewith,an iodine ion forming substance distributed throughout said contact electrolyte layer,said iodien ion forming substance being an iodide salt selected from the goup consisting of zinc iodine, silver iodide, copper iodide, potassium iodide, calcium iodide, and mixtures thereof.
