Magnetic detector apparatus including a pair of magnetic sensor assemblies and a non-magnetic electrically conducting sensor housing supporting the assemblies in spaced apart relation, each sensor assembly including a signal winding, a magnetic core, and an excitation conductor extending along the core for exciting the same, wherein the excitation conductors are connected in series by conducting path means including the sensor housing, and wherein the excitation conductors are electrically connected to the housing at points that are separated by a large distance compared to the length of each excitation conductor.
