System and method for remote presentation of diagnostic image information
First Claim
1. A system for providing remote viewing of diagnostic images, comprising:
- electronic diagnostic equipment which produces within it first analog video signals representing said images in a first analog format,means responsive to said first analog video signals for producing stored digital signals representing said images;
a remote terminal adapted to receive analog video signals in a standard commercial television format, differing from said first format, and to reproduce the image represented by the received signals;
means for accessing said stored digital signals and for producing therefrom corresponding signals representing said images;
means for transmitting said corresponding signals to said remote terminal for reproduction of said images at said terminal; and
format conversion means for converting said first analog video signals to said differing standard format at a point in said system ahead of said signal transmitting means without thereby converting said first analog video signals to a visually-observable image.

Abstract
A system for transferring medical diagnostic information from the diagnostic site to remote physicians'"'"' stations picks off an internal analog video signal from imaging diagnostic equipment (such as a CAT scanner or MRI equipment), converts it to an analog video signal of different, preferably standard, format, stores it, and when desired transmits the reformatted image information to the physician'"'"'s terminal. Preferably the storage and transmission is in binary digitized form. At the physician'"'"'s station, the received signal is stored, decoded and applied in appropriate analog video form to an associated CRT display for reproduction of the diagnostic images. The equipments at both the control site of the diagnostic station and at the remote terminals may constitute PC'"'"'s (personal computers) plus an additional video monitor. Preferably the converter equipment at the diagnostic site includes a monolithic signal processing chip which senses the format of the picked-off analog video and converts it to any desired output format.

2. A system for providing remote viewing of diagnostic images, generated by electronic diagnostic equipment which produces analog video signals representing said images in a first format, comprising:
-
format converter means responsive to said analog video signals in said first format for converting them to a selected different analog video format without thereby converting said analog signals of said first format into a visually observable image; digitizing means for digitizing said different analog video signals to form corresponding digitized image-represented signals; storage means for storing the values of said digitized image-representing signals; a remote terminal including a digital-to-analog converter and an image-display device, responsive to digitized analog video signals in said different format to reproduce the image represented by said analog video signals; means for accessing said stored digitized image-representing signal values, to produce corresponding digital image-representing signals; and means for transmitting said digitized video output signals of said standard format to said remote terminal for display on said image-display device thereof. - View Dependent Claims (3, 4)
