1. A topical composition for desquamation in mammalian skin comprising:

  • a) desquamation actives consisting essentially of;

    (i) a safe and effective amount of zwitterionic surfactant having the structure;

    ##STR8## wherein R1 is unsubstituted, saturated or unsaturated, straight or branched chain alkyl having from about 9 to about 22 carbon atoms;

    m is an integer from 1 to 3;

    n is 0 or 1;

    R2 and R3 are, independently, alkyl having from 1 to about 3 carbon atoms, unsubstituted or mono-substituted with hydroxy;

    R4 is saturated or unsaturated, straight or branched chain alkylene, unsubstituted or mono-substituted with hydroxy, having from 1 to about 5 carbon atoms; and

    X is selected from the group consisting of CO2, SO3 and SO4 ; and

    (ii) a safe and effective amount of salicylic acid; and

    b) a topical carrier;

    the composition being in the form of a topical product.
