1. A radio-frequency ablation apparatus for biological tissues, comprising:

  • an array of electrodes;

    a radio frequency energy source having a plurality of voltage outputs, each supplying individually-phased radio frequency voltages; and

    a plurality of electrical connections that couple said array of electrodes to said voltage outputs;

    whereinsaid individually-phased radio frequency voltages are such that, over a predetermined period of time, substantial potential differences exist between a plurality of pairs of electrodes in the array to effect RF heating therebetween in order to achieve broad coverage of ablation of biological tissues adjacent to said array of electrodes.
