An iodine adsorption agent comprising silver or a silver salt on a porous, temperature-resistant and acid-resistant inorganic carrier, wherein the carrier has an average pore diameter, d50, in the range from about 6 to 200 nm, and a pore diameter distribution in which about 80% of the pore volume is contained in pores whose diameters, comprising from 10% to 90% of the pore diameter distribution, d10 through d90, lie within the range of 50% around the average pore diameter.
