1. A system for detecting a rotational speed of an engine in a vehicle, the system comprising:

  • a probe for connection to a vehicular ground to detect signals emitted from an ignition system of the engine; and

    a tachometer circuit operatively connected to the probe for identifying the detected signals representing ignition sparks of the engine and for providing an output representative of the rotational speed of the engine based on the identified signals, the tachometer circuit having a circuit common reference.
