1. A thickened aqueous composition comprising 0.01 to 40% w/w of a water-soluble peracid in solution together with a thickener wherein the thickener comprises:

  • (a) an aliphatic alcohol ethoxylate having the formula;

    
    
    space="preserve" listing-type="equation">R.sup.1 R.sup.2 CH--(OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2).sub.n --OHin which R1 and R2 are hydrogen or linear or branched alkyl,in which n is an integer of at least 1,in which, when neither R1 nor R2 is a hydrogen atom, R1 and R2 have in total from 10 to 18 carbon atoms, and the number ratio of carbon atoms in R1 plus R2 ;

    n is in the range of from 4;

    1 to 7;

    1, andin which when either R1 or R2 is a hydrogen atom, the total number of carbon atoms is from 7 to 16 carbon atoms and the number ratio of carbon atoms in R1 plus R2 ;

    n is in the range of from 4;

    1 to 9;

    1; and

    (b) an amine oxide co-surfactant in an amount sufficient to increase the viscosity of the composition, said ethoxylate (a) being present in an amount of from 2.5 to 15% w/w, said co-surfactant (b) being present in an amount of from 0.1 to 5% w/w, and the weight ratio of said ethoxylate (a) to said co-surfactant (b) being from 2;
