1. A system for infusing a fluid into the vascular system of the body of a patient, the system comprising:

  • (a) a hollow infusion catheter having a body wall extending from a proximal end to an opposing distal end, the distal end having a plurality of infusion holes extending through the body wall; and

    (b) pump means fluid coupled to the proximal end of the infusion catheter for repeatedly dispensing predetermined amounts of the fluid into the infusion catheter, the pump means including a barrel, a plunger slidably received within the barrel, and means for automatically retracting the plunger within the barrel after the plunger is manually advanced within the barrel.
