1. A method of managing mobile stations in a wireless network, comprising the steps of:

  • receiving, at a base station, a signal from a first mobile station that its battery power is below a threshold value;

    assigning, at the base station, a frequency channel to the first mobile station that has a lower interference level than frequency channels assigned to other mobile stations, in response to receipt of the signal; and

    transmitting the assignment to the first and other stations.
