1. A method of providing location information of a mobile unit for use by a mobile switching center of a cellular communication network, the method comprising the mobile unit receiving a position signal from an advanced positioning system, determining a geographic location of the mobile unit, transmitting a location code that represents the geographic location to a location tracking system ("LTS"), which stores the transmitted location code in a database and forwards the location code to the mobile switching center responsive to a request by the mobile switching center for the location code;

  • andtransmitting to the LTS and forwarding to the mobile switching center a technology code with the location code.
