1. A computer-implemented method for tracking medical supply usage on a procedural level in a clinical setting comprising the steps of:
- creating provider-specific procedural templates, each comprising a list of supplies predetermined to be preferred by a particular healthcare provider for use during a given medical procedure;
creating a recordation form for the given procedure based upon at least one of said provider-specific procedural templates for the given procedure, said recordation form including at least a partial listing of the supplies predetermined to be preferred by a particular healthcare provider for use during the given procedure based upon the at least one provider-specific procedural template, said recordation form including a scheduled amount of each of the supplies included in the procedural template to be used during the given medical procedure;
recording on said recordation form actual usage information reflecting the actual usage of supplies during the given procedure, said recording comprising the steps of;
recording an issued amount of each of the supplies included in the procedural template, where the issued amount is an amount issued for use in the medical procedure;
recording a consumed amount of each of the supplies included in the procedural template, where the consumed amount is an amount actually consumed during the medical procedure;
recording a returned amount of each of the supplies included in the procedural template, where the returned amount is an amount returned to storage after the medical procedure;
recording a scrapped amount of each of the supplies included in the procedural template, where the scrapped amount is an amount disposed of but not consumed during the medical procedure nor returned to storage;
storing said provider-specific procedural templates and actual usage information in a retrievable manner for the purposes of analysisanalyzing said actual usage information from the given procedure and the at least one of said provider-specific procedural templates to determine supply request and actual usage patterns on a procedural level over a given time period for the particular healthcare provider by comparing the issued, consumed, returned, and scrapped amounts; and
modifying said provider-specific procedural templates to more fully conform to the actual usage patterns based on said analyzing.

The method includes the steps of creating at least one procedural template comprising a list of anticipated supplies to be used during a given medical procedure, creating a recordation form from a given procedure based upon the procedural template, the form including at least a partial listing of the anticipated supplies to be used during the procedure based upon the procedural template, recording on the form actual usage of supplies during the procedure, and storing the procedural template and actual usage information in a retrievable manner for the purposes of analysis.

13. A computer-implemented process for the management of information relating to the consumption of health care resources in a clinical environment comprising the steps of:

generating a machine readable and displayable provider-specific template of health care resources predetermined to be preferred by a particular healthcare provider for use during a given health care procedure; storing said provider-specific template in a machine readable and displayable database; outputting a recordation form in a human perceivable format based upon said machine readable and displayable provider-specific template, said recordation form comprising at least a partial listing of health care resources predetermined to be preferred by a particular healthcare provider for use during the given health care procedure; inputting actual usage information concerning the actual usage of health care resources associated with the given procedure, said inputting including the steps of; inputting an issued amount of each of the resources included in the template, where the issued amount is an amount issued for use in the procedure; inputting a consumed amount of each of the resources included in the template, where the consumed amount is an amount actually consumed during the procedure; inputting a returned amount of each of the resources included in the template, where the returned amount is an amount returned to storage after the procedure; inputting a scrapped amount of each of the resources included in the template, where the scrapped amount is an amount disposed of but not consumed during the procedure nor returned to storage; storing said actual usage information in a machine readable and displayable database; analyzing said actual usage information and said provider-specific template to determine deviations between expected resource consumption and actual resource consumption for the particular healthcare provider during the given health care procedure, said analyzing including comparing the issued, consumed, returned, and scrapped amounts of the resources; and modifying said provider-specific template to more fully conform to the actual usage of health care resources by the particular health care provider during the given health care procedure based on said analyzing. - View Dependent Claims (14, 15, 16, 17, 18)
