1. A method for detecting a promoter-induction event in an animal, said method comprising the steps:

  • (a) triggering the event in a transgenic animal having a promoter responsive to such event and a heterologous gene encoding a light-generating protein under control thereof, and (b) measuring with a photodetector device, photon emission through opaque tissue from expressed light-generating protein in the animal.
