1. A paging transceiver, comprising:

  • a selective call receiver for receiving a selective call signal having an information identifier signal identifying information stored in a system, wherein the information is not included in the selective call signal regardless of the amount of the information and, at the time the selective call signal is received by the receiver, the information is not stored in the paging transceiver;

    a transmitter for transmitting signals;

    a processor for receiving the information identifier signal from the receiver and for generating an alert signal after receiving the information identifier signal; and

    a user interface for receiving the alert signal and for generating an alert to inform a user of the paging transceiver that the information identifier signal has been received, the user interface also for receiving an input from the user designating a desired function to be performed on the information, wherein the processor detects the input to the user interface and generates a request signal indicating the desired function, and the transmitter transmits the request signal to the system so that the desired function may be performed on the information identified by the information identifier signal.
