1. A method for measuring the distance between a first transceiver and a second transceiver, comprising the steps of:

  • determining a time delay that represents the total time taken for a first pulse train signal to travel from the first transceiver to the second transceiver and a second pulse train signal to travel from the second transceiver back to the first transceiver;

    determining a coarse distance between the first and second transceivers based on the time delay, the coarse distance representative of the distance between the first and second transceivers in coarse resolution;

    generating an in phase (I) and quadraphase (Q) signal from the time delay;

    determining a fine distance between the first and second transceivers from the in phase (I) and quadraphase (Q) signals, the fine distance indicating the distance between the first and second transceivers in fine resolution; and

    determining the distance between the first and second transceivers from the coarse distance and the fine distance.
