Abstract

A broadcast material delivery architecture provides coordinated inclusion of supplemental materials with delivered broadcast material. A broadcaster broadcasts the broadcast materials to a plurality of users, the broadcast material being divided into a plurality of segments. Also broadcast is program data associated with the plurality of segments. A user terminal receives the broadcast material from the broadcaster and retrieving supplemental materials related to said plurality of segments of said broadcast material. To retrieve the supplemental materials, the program data are provided to a data server, which provides parameters for the supplemental materials to the user terminal. The user terminal uses the parameters to retrieve supplemental materials from one or more databases. The user terminal plays the supplemental materials in conjunction with the broadcast material.

Claims

1. A radio broadcast material delivery method for coordinating the presentation of supplemental materials with the broadcast material, the broadcast material delivery method comprising:

transmitting to an Internet broadcasting system, from a radio station system, broadcast materials divided into a plurality of program segments, the program segments being accompanied by program data, the program data comprising a code identifying the accompanied program segment;

receiving the program segments and program data at the Internet broadcasting system and broadcasting the received broadcast materials and program data to a plurality of media players over the Internet;

receiving at a media player the broadcast material and program data from said Internet broadcast system and transmitting the program data to a first server;

receiving at the first server the program data transmitted by the media player and determining and transmitting parameters for the program data back to the media player by accessing a table associating different respective program data with different respective parameters, the first server not transmitting broadcast material segments to the media player transmitted by the Internet broadcasting system to the media player; and

receiving at the media player the parameters transmitted by the first server, retrieving supplemental material identified by the parameters, presenting said supplemental materials at the media player in conjunction with the broadcast material, and retrieving additional supplemental materials in response to user interaction with the supplemental materials.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the code comprises a cut code.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the code comprises a station ID.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the code comprises a category.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the supplemental materials comprises at least one of the following:

video, audio, and text.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the supplemental materials comprise computer program instructions.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising encoding the program segments for transmitting to the Internet broadcasting system.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the parameters comprise a URL (Universal Resource Locator).

9. A system for coordinating the presentation of supplemental materials with radio broadcast material, the system comprising:

a radio broadcast system configured to transmit to an Internet broadcasting system broadcast materials divided into a plurality of program segments, the program segments being accompanied by program data, the program data comprising a code identifying the accompanied program segment;

an Internet broadcasting system configured to receive the program segments and program data and broadcast the received broadcast materials and program data to a plurality of media players over the Internet;

a media player configured to receive the broadcast material and program data from said Internet broadcast system, transmit the program data to a first server, receive parameters transmitted by the first server, retrieve supplemental material identified by the parameters, present said supplemental materials at the media player in conjunction with the broadcast material, and retrieve additional supplemental materials in response to user interaction with the supplemental materials;

the first server configured to receive the program data transmitted by the media player and determine and transmit the parameters for the program data back to the media player by accessing a table associating different respective program data with different respective parameters, the first server not transmitting broadcast material segments to the media player transmitted by the Internet broadcasting system to the media player.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the code comprises a cut code.

11. The system of claim 9, wherein the code comprises a station ID.

12. The system of claim 9, wherein the code comprises a category.

13. The system of claim 9, wherein the supplemental materials comprises at least one of the following:

video, audio, and text.

14. The system of claim 9, wherein the supplemental materials comprise computer program instructions.

15. The system of claim 9, further comprising encoding the program segments for transmitting to the Internet broadcasting system.

16. The system of claim 9, wherein the parameters comprise a URL (Universal Resource Locator).

17. One or more computer program products, disposed on one or more computer readable mediums, for coordinating the presentation of supplemental materials with radio broadcast material, the programs comprising instructions for causing one or more processors to:

transmit to an Internet broadcasting system, from a radio station system, broadcast materials divided into a plurality of program segments, the program segments being accompanied by program data, the program data comprising a code identifying the accompanied program segment;

receive the program segments and program data at the Internet broadcasting system and broadcast the received broadcast materials and program data to a plurality of media players over the Internet;

receive at a media player the broadcast material and program data from said Internet broadcast system and transmit the program data to a first server;

receive at the first server the program data transmitted by the media player and determine and transmit parameters for the program data back to the media player by accessing a table associating different respective program data with different respective parameters, the first server not transmitting broadcast material segments to the media player transmitted by the Internet broadcasting system to the media player; and

receive at the media player the parameters transmitted by the first server, retrieve supplemental material identified by the parameters, present said supplemental materials at the media player in conjunction with the broadcast material, and retrieve additional supplemental materials in response to user interaction with the supplemental materials.

18. The computer program(s) of claim 17, wherein the code comprises a cut code.

19. The computer program(s) of claim 17, wherein the code comprises a station ID.

20. The computer program(s) of claim 17, wherein the code comprises a category.

21. The computer program(s) of claim 17, wherein the supplemental materials comprises at least one of the following:

video, audio, and text.

22. The computer program(s) of claim 17, wherein the supplemental materials comprise computer program instructions.

23. The computer program(s) of claim 17, further comprising encoding the program segments for transmitting to the Internet broadcasting system.

24. The computer program(s) of claim 17, wherein the parameters comprise a URL (Universal Resource Locator).
