Abstract

A system for remotely managing a network of waste containers (12), each of which is associated with a monitoring unit (38), utilizes a central computer (50) having a communication link to each monitoring unit (38). The central computer (50) provides a dynamically updated display, via a display module (60) having a full container window (or zone) which shows full containers (12), an alarm window (or zone) which shows non-full containers (12) having an alarm condition, and a container status window (or zone) which shows non-full containers not having an alarm condition.

Claims

1. A system for dynamically polling containers in a waste container network the waste container network including a plurality of waste containers, each container having associated therewith a monitoring unit for monitoring status information associated with the container and for communicating the status information to a remote location, the system comprising:

a central computer including a computer-readable medium for storing computer-readable instructions thereon, the computer-readable medium comprising;

receiving a user-input polling interval for at least one of the containers;

For each user-input poll-mg interval, creating and storing a polling session in a session stack;

processing one of the polling sessions stored in the session stack;

Waiting a predetermined time for receipt of an inbound call;

processing another of the polling sessions stored in the session stack.

2. The system of claim 1, further comprising

receiving a full signal from the monitoring unit associated with a full one of the containers in the container network;

creating a full session in response to receipt of the full signal; and

storing the full session in the session stack such that polling of the full container is accomplished prior to any other polling sessions stored in the session stack.

3. The system of claim 1 further comprising the step of prompting a user for the user input polling interval using a graphic display.
