1. A system for classifying and tracking traffic in an airport having at least one runway and at least one taxiway, the system comprising:

  • one or more inductive loops positioned at predetermined locations near the runway and the taxiway to generate a signal when a vehicle passes near an inductive loop;

    means for assigning a classification to the vehicle in response to the signal generated by the inductive loop;

    means for determining a position of the vehicle in the airport as the vehicle passes near the inductive loop;

    means for calculating the speed of the vehicle as the vehicle passes over the inductive loop; and

    means for displaying a representation of the vehicle in the airport, the representation of the vehicle indicating the classification of the vehicle, the position of the vehicle, and the speed of the vehicle.
