Brewing system with electrical controller and method
First Claim
1. In a brewing system having a hot water dispenser tank for containment of a preselected amount of water needed for a complete brew cycle, means for selectively dispensing the hot water in the hot water dispenser tank into a brew basket during a brew cycle and a manually actuatable brew cycle start switch for initiating the brew cycle, the improvement being a brew cycle controller, comprising:
- means for sensing when the hot water dispenser contains the preselected quantity of water needed for a brew cycle; and
means for storing the occurrence of manual actuation of the brew cycle start switch; and
means responsive to both the storing means and the sensing means for controlling the selective dispensing means to delay dispensing of water into the brew basket in response to an actuation of the brew cycle initiation switch until the sensing means senses that the preselected quantity of water needed for a brew cycle is contained in the hot water dispenser tank if the brew cycle start switch is actuated to start a brew cycle before the hot water dispenser tank contains the preselected amount of water.

Abstract
A twin brewer system (30) with a pair of brewers (30A, 30B) each with a controller (158) for controlling the application of electrical power to a hot water heater, disables the application of electrical power to the heater (154) of one brewer (30A, 30B) in response to actuation of a start brew switch of the one brewer (30A, 30B) while electrical power is being applied to the heater (154) of the other brewer (30A, 30B). The controllers also respond to a hot water quantity sensor (164, 168) and a responsive delay circuit for disabling dispensing of hot water in response to actuation of the brew start switch (50) until a sufficient quantity of hot water is in a hot water dispenser tank (152) needed for the brew cycle. Indication lamps indicate when the brew cycle is being delayed and when brewing is not being performed. Actuation of a single emergency stop switch (138) stops hot water dispensing of both brewers (30A, 30B).

the dispensing controlling means is responsive to the temperature sensing means to delay dispensing of water in response to an actuation of the brew cycle start switch until both the temperature sensing means senses that the temperature of the hot water in the hot water dispenser tank has reached the preselected minimum temperature in addition to delaying the start of the brew cycle in response to the quantity sensor sensing that the preselected quantity of water need for a brew cycle is contained in the hot water dispenser tank if the brew cycle start switch is actuated to start a brew cycle. -
3. The brewing system of claim 1 including
an indicator light associated with the brew cycle start switch and having two different first and second modes of operation, and means responsive to the dispensing controlling means for controlling the mode of operation of the indicator light in accordance with whether the dispensing of water into the brew basket in response to actuation of the brew cycle start switch is being delayed.
