1. A method for providing motivation to a user of a training process which, when executed, presents stimuli to the user wherein the stimuli are designed primarily to improve a cognitive ability of the user and measures the cognitive ability of the user by comparison of responses of the user to the stimuli to predetermined correct responses, the method comprising:

  • presenting a task for the user, completion of which requires that the user perform one or more steps;

    determining a target number of steps within which the user is expected to complete the task;

    representing to the user a progress indicator at a position which indicates a difference between the steps taken so far by the user and the target number of steps; and

    representing a progress animation which moves the progress indicator from the first-mentioned position to a subsequent position to indicate one or more additional steps taken by the user by;

    animating movement the progress indicator to represent a continuous transition from the first position to the subsequent position; and

    animating the progress indicator independently of a change in position of the animating movement of the progress indicator.
