1. In a system which includes a plurality of wireless interface devices adapted to be connected to a server by way of a radio link, the system comprising:
- a plurality of wireless interface devices, each wireless interface device including a display and a radio communication system for enabling a user to manually select a server for connection and establishing a connection with the selected server in response thereto;
a server which includes a system for communicating with said wireless interface devices over a radio link in response to being manually selected by said wireless interface device;
means for writing display information from said server to said plurality of wireless interface devices;
means for providing an on-screen keyboard (OSK) on the display of one or more of each said wireless interface device; and
means for registering said OSK to prevent said server from overwriting said OSK on said display of said wireless interface device while still able to write display information from said server to said plurality or wireless interface devices outside of said OSK.

Abstract
A plurality of wireless interface devices, interfaced to a server that may be connected in either a wireless or wired LAN. Each wireless interface device may be a pen-based device which communicates with the server over a radio link. An alternative input system is provided on the wireless interface device in the form of a virtual on-screen keyboard (OSK). Once radio communication is established between the wireless interface device and the server and the OSK is launched, the system prevents overriding of the OSK on the display of the wireless interface device.

5. In a computer system which includes one or more servers, the server comprising:
-
means for communicating with, and writing display information to, a plurality of remote wireless interface devices which has manually selected said server, each of said remote wireless interface devices having its own display and a communication system for enabling a user to select one of a plurality of servers and establish a connection with said server in response thereto for communicating with said server by way of a radio link; and
means for automatically providing an occlusion window for each of said remote wireless interface devices when an on-screen keyboard (QSK) has been selected on each of said wireless interface devices to prevent overwriting of said OSK of at least one of said remote wireless interface devices, each of said occlusion windows corresponding to the size and location of each said OSK while still able to write display information from said server to said plurality of wireless interface devices outside of said occlusion window. - View Dependent Claims (6, 7)

8. In a system which includes a server and wireless LAN adapter to enable said server to communicate with remote devices by way of a radio link, a plurality of wireless interface devices, each wireless interface device comprising:
-
a display;
a radio communications system for enabling a user to manually select a server and establishing a connection with said server in response thereto by way of said wireless LAN adapter;
means for receiving display information from said server;
means for providing an on-screen keyboard (OSK) on said display for enabling input to be provided to said server; and
means for providing an occlusion region corresponding to the OSK in said wireless interface device to prevent said server from overwriting said OSK on said display of said wireless interface device, while still able to write said display information from said server which is outside of said occlusion window. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14)

15. A system for protecting screen displays in a remote wireless interface device, the system comprising:
-
a remote host server having a CPU and a memory device;
a plurality of wireless interface devices, each wireless interface device including a display device and a wireless communications system for selectively interfacing and communicating with said remote host server by way of wireless link and enabling a user to manually select a remote host server and establish a connection in response thereto;
means for writing display information from said server to said plurality of wireless interface devices;
an on-screen keyboard (OSK) adapted to be displayed on the display of each said wireless interface device and registered with said remote host server;
one or more occlusion regions configured to be formed and stored in said memory device wherein each said occlusion regions corresponds to the size and location of each said OSK, said remote host server configured to automatically activate each said occlusion region that is communicating with said remote host server to prevent said remote host server from overwriting said OSK, while still able to write display information from said server outside of said one or more occlusion regions. - View Dependent Claims (16, 17, 18)
