1. A method of producing a displayed image, comprising:

  • emitting a first modulated beam of light with a modulation corresponding to a first portion of the image;

    scanning the first beam of light through a first scan pattern with a first scanning assembly;

    emitting a second modulated beam of light with a modulation corresponding to a second portion of the image;

    scanning the second beam of light through a second scan pattern with a second scanning assembly different from the first;

    orienting the first and second scanning assemblies in a manner that defines the first and second scan patterns as substantially adjacent and substantially non-overlapping parts of an image field;

    emitting a third modulated beam of light with a modulation corresponding to a third portion of the image; and

    scanning the third beam of light through a third scan pattern with the first scanning assembly.
