1. An anchoring system for use with a catheter having an adaptor with a radially extending member projecting therefrom, said anchoring system comprising:

  • a retainer including first and second channel portions which extend about a longitudinal axis, each channel portion generally having a truncated cross-sectional shape with an opening along said longitudinal axis, at least one of the channel portions being sized to surround at least a portion of the adaptor through an arc of greater than 180°

    about said longitudinal axis, and a lateral slot which extends generally perpendicular to said longitudinal axis and lies between said first and second channel portions, at least one of the channel portions having a width that tapers along said longitudinal axis; and

    a flexible anchor pad having an adhesive bottom surface and a top surface on which said retainer is mounted, said retainer being positioned on said top surface in a position exposing the opening of said channel portions.
