1. A method for drilling and completing a wellbore in a subterranean formation with the same drilling fluid, said method comprising:

  • (a) employing an electrically non-conductive, oil based drilling fluid with Newtonian properties;

    (b) real-time monitoring of the viscosity of said fluid;

    (c) adjusting said viscosity of said fluid at desired times and locations in the wellbore by applying an electric potential to said fluid at said times and locations increased viscosity of the fluid is desired and ceasing or reducing said electric potential at times and locations decreased viscosity of the fluid is desired;

    (d) adding at least one organometallic compound to said fluid to enhance the effects of the electrical potential for enhanced viscosity; and

    (e) avoiding borchale occlusion by said real time monitoring and adjustment of the viscosity of said drilling fluid during drilling to keep said viscosity of said fluid constant and the flow velocity profile of the fluid flat.
